| Re: Where does a pregnant girl look for work?! Having you thought about running an in home family daycare? thats what I did. I found out in 2006 that i was pregnant with twins and dreaded having to put 2 into daycare because it would cost me almost $300 a week to have them there full time.
So I decided to open my own daycare and have been doing it ever since. Now I make (here in ny) between 400 and 750 a week. It goes up and down. Just a thought. I hope you figure it out. Good luck.

| Re: Where does a pregnant girl look for work?! I think your hours will severely limit your search. Many places are not looking for an employee who is available only 6 hrs a week. What about doing online surveys, selling on eBay, doing click to earn programs (like MyPoints or SendEarnings), or offering to watch children in your home. |

| Re: Where does a pregnant girl look for work?! I was an HR Director for a chain of nursing homes and we had a part time position that we always had a hard time filling because we only needed someone 3-4 hours a day. THe position was a van driver for the nursing home and offering general public transportation to the public. You would pick up residents and people in the community and drop them off at their doctor appts. THis person was also responsible for keeping the van washed and cleaned, and would take it in for oil changes, etc.
9:00-1:00 is one of the busiest times for doctor appts, we often had 2 or 3 vans going depending on the demand. You would need to be cleared to push a wheel chair, have a clean driving record, and pass a DOT physical and drug test. We paid about $10 an hour for this position. I would call around to the nursing homes and retirement homes in your area, as most of the time this position is not advertised for, since it's so hard to fill due to the short hours. Good luck!
BTW-I have, myself, hired a pregnant person for this position-she was cleared by our dr to do the job, so I put her to work! :) |

| Re: Where does a pregnant girl look for work?! I will call around first thing tomorrow, sounds like it could work! And are you still in HR? Just wondering because I graduated with a BA in HR and really want to get into it...one day. After I raise my kids I guess! I was offered a job with Lamar Advertising the week I found out I was pregnant w/ my DD. Crazy how life works!

| Re: Where does a pregnant girl look for work?! If you are in good shape physically you could clean houses. It's not light work but the money can be good and it can be flexible. I worked for a small company that hired mostly moms and she let us choose our own days/times to work as long as the houses were cleaned in a certain time frame or certain day depending on customer preferences. Anyway, many of the women broke off and did independent cleaning for one or two clients to make more money. If you can get two or three people that need cleaning and do their houses every week or every two weeks you could make some money without having to work 20+. If you have a cleaning supply stockpile like most couponers it makes it even cheaper to start up.
And I know you said something about not wanting to change another diaper besides your daughter, but how about you look for older kids to watch? Or if there are any kids in your neighborhood that only have a few hours between after school and when Mom and Dad are both not home from work you could have them in your home for an activity like a movie or homework time or craft if you are creative. Just be sure to check your local laws on this because you may not be able to do that unless you get a daycare license, but in some places you could do it and charge flat rate per child per day.
I worked in retail and there's really no place that is going to hire you with that limited of hours. In fact some places won't hire if you put even one day per week when you can not work. They are looking for people with open hours. They might be able to offer nights or mornings but few places will guarantee that. This time of year some places are looking for seasonal workers to be Christmas temps, but they will require you to work Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years and probably require you work a set number of hours (20-30+), late nights and weekends. And no place I know of would only hire you for 6 hours per week to only work until January. It wouldn't be worth their time to train you. I'm not trying to discourage you, just telling you so you don't waste your time. |
