Those are all great ideas. I think the childcare for after school children is a good idea and the blinkie lady could work too. I am pretty limited as far as hours so I don't think a restaurant would work. Although a bakery down the street is hiring so I may check there. Of course I may gain half my weight in eclairs there! How do you go about getting a blinkie lady job??

Try searching for merchandiser positions on job sites and google. :)

I have personally done both. I worked for American Greetings a few years back, and while I loved it, on my own time just had a certain timeframe when things needed to get done, and I'm a bit OCD so when I was done with a store I would just stand and say "aw, how pretty and neat", and move onto the next store, this job wouldn't be ideal as you get further in your pregnancy. The materials and cards and such are mailed to the store, you are notified and you go and restock the shelves. These boxes are heavy! I actually got pregnant while I had this job and well, I decided for the safety of myself and the baby, to quit when I was just a few months along.

That being said, this is a great job for a mom, since you can work around your own schedule, I even knew someone who did a 24 hour store and she would go in after her kids had gone to bed! I wish I could find an opening in my area, I really could use some 'non-kid' time, but then again who would watch my kids?! We just moved here and we don't know anyone!

Mystery shopping, I do as well, as I'm sure many moms here do. I just moved here to Atlanta so I haven't updated my info just yet, but I lived in a smaller town and honestly the jobs available for me there just wasn't worth the money. Some of them you can't have anyone with you, so for me with kids, had to throw that out the window. The ones I did all the time, were the pizza delivery ones. I would get reimbursed the entire purchase including tip. FREE pizza and all I had to do was take some pictures of the pizza and tell them about the experience.

But I'm hoping once I update with the new big city, that I'll have more opportunities.

    Just my two cents!

I once was a pregnant girl looking for work and was told point blank that no one would hire a pregnant woman. I had one lady tell me to try to hide my belly! Crazy lady! I finally found a temp job that was from 5-9 at night doing data entry and it went to a full time job, and I stayed there until I had my baby.

    Good luck to you!!!

Can your sister watch your child for you also in exchange for the 5 - 12 hours nights you keep her child? Seems like you guys could swap back and forth and both enjoy the benefits of working outside the home. $10 a night kinda sounds like she is taking advantage if you feel like you have no childcare options, ie. she won't watch your child.

If you could work this out, then maybe you could extend the hours you could work and you'd have a lot more options.

I recently quit to stay home with my little one. I was in it for 8 years and loved it! My position had a ton of travel becuase we were a multi state organization and with a new baby and and husband with a crazy call out schedule and no family or friends in the area to watch LO if DH got called out (when he gets called out it could be 20 minutes to 2 plus weeks, you don't know until the phone rings), we decided it was best if I stayed home. I hope it works out for you to get into the industry in the future-it's a great field.

Here's an old thread about one of the members here that became a blinkie lady. She includes a link to apply. The thread is from 2008 so there may not be any jobs available anymore or that may not be the way to apply but it should help point you in the right direction.

I got offered a job as The Blinkie Lady!!!

Call around to local veterinary offices or pet boarding facilities to see if they need kennel help or filing (for clinics who aren't paperless) or call Dr offices and see if they could use help filing. Or do reception at a Hotel. Your area is near the University if I'm not mistaken, so there should be several Hotels nearby. Or call local gyms and see if they could use daycare help for older kids...( I know Franco's here had an ad looking for this position not too long ago). There's the kids activity center in Hammond, Jumperoo...they might could use help with birthdays or family days.

I have no idea if its in your area, but I found this temp agency has been incredible 10 til 2. www.tentiltwo.com

Been on 1 interview, and have another next week.

They specialize in part time long term employment. Lots of jobs in the 4-8 hrs a week range.

I've registered with temp agencies and I've gotten a number of part time positions that way too!
