HELP HELP! Need advice on Potty Training!

Okay so I'm so lost when it comes to potty training and wondered if anyone had any really good advice? I've been working with my ds for awhile now but not really getting very far. He is ready (he pee's in the potty on his own) but refuses to learn the other.... What can I do to teach him so by the time this next babies born I don't have two in diapers???

My twins were the same way..They would hold it until I put a pull up on then for bed time so I had to just stop buying pulls and let them wet on the bed..it was still hard for them they cried some but after a fews days they were going #2 in the potty and julia dont wet the bed, alex still wets the about half the week but thats ok we dont have to spend money on diapers or pull ups anymore. He may try to hold it so give him apple juice to make that harder for him to do.

My 4 year old is the same way. Number #1 down pat Number #2 a no-go. He has two weeks left before school starts back and I really want him trained. He has developmental delays so that has alot to do with it.

He's 2 1/2. Will be 3 next month. We have been working on potty training him for a few months but don't seem to know what to do.

The average age for a boy is 3 1/2 when fully potty trained and it should take a very short amount of time to have accomplished. They either are gonna grasp it or they are not...and you end of wasting a lot of time...when trying before they are completely ready...and research has been shown...that the earlier you start...the longer it takes.

I've done both kids...in a matter of days....but I waited until they were completely ready.

IMO I would just completely stop now...put him in diapers (if you have him in pullups) and just drop it for a few months. Try again later...but keep in mind that is extremely typical for a child to regress when the sibling is born...so sometimes it's not even worth it until after the baby is born. Even though we want to only do one set of kids diapers at once...that doesn't mean...it ends up working out that way.

I don't have great advice, but I do have empathy.
I tried when ds was 2 1/2. After two weeks of misery, he begged for diapers again. A series of trips and the beginning of preschool postponed everything for a few months. We tried again when he was three. Again, lots of mistakes, but -- and I swear it seemed like overnight -- all of a sudden he got it. He still had a few accidents when he was really involved in playing with something and just didn't get to the bathroom in time, but once it clicked in his head, he was fine.
My ds, though, was fine with #2 from the beginning. It was #1 that was a problem. If you're having a hard time training with #2, try making a big deal of flushing it away when he goes in a diaper or pull-up.
Good luck.

I only have girls but hopefully my experience can help a bit. They say children just know. In DD2's case, this was true. She started showing signs early on but I did'nt push. I just laid the foundation, provided a potty for her, princess flushable wipes and so on. Did the pull up thing and that helped for a bit I guess. I only let her wear them at night but she used them as a crutch. When wearing one, she did'nt make much effort.

Finally, I decided... enough. I took her to Target and started browsing the kiddy undies. She immediately squealed for Dora, Disney, etc. I told her that only big girls can wear those but as soon as she starts going in the potty, she could have them. This motivated her. Every "accident" I reminded her that the undies were waiting for her at Target.

This prompted her to REALLY try. She started only having accidents at night. So, I took her to Target, she picked out her most favorite LOL and after I washed them, I folded them and put them in a pink wicker basket I bought for the corner of her bedroom by her bed. I did'nt want her trying to get into her drawers but I wanted her to have that independence. This was HUGE for her, she thought that was the coolest thing EVER. After bath, I wrap her in the towel and she walks to her room and SHE gets to pick the undies for the day.

Now, she's in panties all the time, even at night. We still take her potty around 11pm and from there, she can hold it til morning. We are about to start weaning from that also.

Good luck to you all
