tried and gave up several times. DD would go for Grandma at 3, but not me.

A couple months after I gave up and wasn't actively trying because we were doing lot of traveling and didn't want to be bothered, she decided she wanted to use the potty. Now 2.5 months later, she's only had 2 accidents and 1 was because her daddy was tickling her.

Tried stickers, bribery (M&M, Skittles), big girl panties (and Cars underwear too)
It was just like one day she decided and that was it, no turning back. Kinda think it was more mommy training. ;)

when potty training my then 3 yr old, she di not want to do it at all peeing or #2 in the potty so here's what i did! this may and maynot work for you!

i did indeed reward her with hershy chocolate bar the small size!
and i tryed the sticker chart it did not work with her :(
so i seen on nanny 911 (while still prego with dd) where joe was saying about making it fun and she made up a little potty song for this child she was trying to help. well i can up with the pee pee song (since i could not remember joe's song) for my dd and it worked!!! i would sing to her in a fun game way "let's all hear the pee pee sound, the pee pee sound let's all hear the pee pee sound going down the potty" i would then stop singing and put my hand to my ear and she would start gigeling and pee! i was SO proud of her and it was all becuase i made it fun for her! and with the #2 i would just sing the same song but pay poo poo sound! hope this helps :-)

I've done both kids...in a matter of days....but I waited until they were completely ready.

IMO I would just completely stop now...put him in diapers (if you have him in pullups) and just drop it for a few months. Try again later...but keep in mind that is extremely typical for a child to regress when the sibling is born...so sometimes it's not even worth it until after the baby is born. Even though we want to only do one set of kids diapers at once...that doesn't mean...it ends up working out that way.
I agree with this post. I tried and tried to potty-train DD and she would not take to it. When she was 3 years old I tried once again, and it worked out.

I know that some will disagree, but we offered her small treats in the begining to get her to poop on the potty. After a few weeks of going, she stopped asking for the treats and just went. In three short months she is now going pee and poop, flushing, and washing her hands independently.

Try not to let it be a negative activity. If he goes, make a big deal about how great he did. If he doesn't, ignore it all together. Children want to please their parents, and if he is ready, he will.

I bribed #1 with a "go to Monsters Inc on ice" trip if she would potty train. We were lucky though...she already did #2's in the tub each day....so we knew she could reasonably control them and produce them at will...

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the advice. So far we have decided to wait a bit since he's regressed again. Hopefully soon!

    .

I have two boys. The youngest turned 3 in June and is still not potty trained (poop or pee). My oldest is almost five. We started potty training him when he was about 2.5 but he did not fully get it until 3.5. So, I agree with cori n wes mom. With boys, you just can't expect it to come as early. Sometimes it does, but don't think you are doing something wrong if it doesn't.

This is my philosophy now that I am on boy #2. When they are ready, they are ready. I can put my DS#2 on the potty and he might make pee or poop, but in reality that is NOT potty training. It is all random. Because there are times when he will not go poop and then four minutes later will go in his diaper. =) He shows absolutely no interest in telling me when he needs to go--he still hides when he poops, and even though we have a reward chart and he gets a toy when he fills it (he gets one sticker for pee and one for poop), he is not interested. He is not interested or motivated by the fact he could get a big boy bed if he is potty trained (he is still in a crib). He is not motivated by wearing big boy underwear. In short, he is just not interested. The only reason I know of to put him on the potty now is to avoid the disgusting poo diapers. =) Random poos and pees in the potty do not equate with potty training. If they don't understand they need to pee or poop and go to the potty, then you are just getting lucky. That is my opinion at least.

That said, I also agree it is a waste to try underwear or even pull ups on a kid who is not interested in using the potty without being forced to. Don't waste your money and don't make yourself clean the poopie underwear. Don't beat yourself up. He's probably just not ready. One day, something will click, and he'll show interest. He might even start asking you to change his diaper, or tell you he is making pee. Then you can start again.
