Default What Size Does Baby Stay in the Longest?

My baby is almost 4 months old now. He went into size 3 months at 6 weeks old, then moved into size 6 months just before he was 3 months old. He doesn't yet fit into the stuff marked 6-9 months (he's almost 15 pounds). Since he's been growing through clothes like crazy, I'm wondering when baby growth spurts start to taper off. Is there any one size your baby stayed in the longest before they reached a year old?

I'm curious because I'm wondering if I should buy more 9 month and 12 month clothes, and I'd like to try to match what I'm buying to what season I think it will be. If he won't be in them too long, I might not get any more.

Also, he had a BIG growth spurt at 3 months (gained a pound in 3 days), should I expect one at 4 months too?

My kids have consistently stayed 1 size ahead of their age.

They were in 18 month clothes at a year, 24 month by their 17-18 month birthday, and in 3T by 2. So once you hit the 2T sizes, they do slow down and stay in those a while. But a growth spurt can hit at any time. Every kid is different.

Default Re: What Size Does Baby Stay in the Longest?

My DD1 was spot on for age and size. At a year she was wearing 12 month stuff or 12-18 month stuff. She is 2.5 now and wears almost all 2T - has since she turned 2 in December. She does have a couple of 3T shirts but 3T shorts/pants are way too big. She is average size and height and always has been.

My DD2 is little. She was born at 8lbs but was only 19lbs at a year. At 14 months, she is wearing 12 months only because all her 9-12 month stuff was winter. I am buying her 12-18 month and 18 month stuff for the fall and winter. She is in the 15-20th percentile in both height and weight.

I think it's really hard to say what to stock up on. I don't worry too much about it because chances are at least one of the girls will wear it during at least one season. Since DD2 is little, I know her clothes will last her longer and that we have clothes from DD1. I have never had an issue buying clothes in bigger sizes, but other moms I know refuse to because their kids skip a size or fit in them in the wrong season. If you buy, simply keep your receipts and return or exchange if needed. If you got a really good deal, you could resell at consignment or on ebay or CL.

Thanks. I may hold off on buying anything else for now, even if I miss a great deal. I guess I figured his growth might slow for a while since his 3 mo. spurt was so drastic.

He was a skinny kid at birth, but has really gained quickly. At his 2 month checkup he was 30th percentile height and weight. At his 3 month check up he was 60th weight and 75th height! The doc said he'd swear he was a different baby.

If he hits a 4 month growth spurt, he very well may skip a size.

we got the most use out of our 12-18 month clothing. 3 & 6 months are typical times for growth spurts. I dont think there is usually any big ones like that between.
