Default HELP! What do you use on a 70lb kid that's not potty trained?

To make a long story short, my son who is 4 years old has sensory processing delays, causing him not to know when he has to use the bathroom. For that reason, he is not potty trained. He will go sometimes if you sit him on the toilet, but I cannot use underwear on him as he can't tell you when he has to go and it leads to too many accidents.

He is tall and weighs nearly 70 lbs. He has outgrown all sizes of diapers and Pull-ups. Does anyone know of some reasonably prices pull-up type items that will work on 70lbs or higher. Even the "cheap" ones at Dollar General are $7.50 for a 12 pack and they are plain white, I really want something with designs so he can at least feel like he's wearing underwear. With a 10 month old in diapers, the cost of his are just draining me. I always thought diapers were expensive, but I can get my daughter's diapers for like .20 a piece, I can't find anything for under .65 a piece with tax (when you divide the cost by how many you get) for the pull-ups.

HELP! If you are in the same boat, what do you use??

Default Re: HELP! What do you use on a 70lb kid that's not potty trained?

Is he on medicaid? Nearly every state medicaid program will provide diapers for a child deemed disabled and who has a medical reasoning behind not being able to be potty trained. You will need a script from his ped or a specialist.

What you are going to need is diapers that you order from a HHC or online.

On the special needs board I'm on..most of the parents like Tranquility brand the most.

Copy and pasting what one mom wrote:

The ATN Disposable Brief made by Tranquility comes in a youth size (minimum 18" waist) and Tranquility also makes a Premium Overnight Disposable Underpant if you prefer a pull-up style (17" waist for the x-small). You can also get Tranquility booster pads (both regular & contoured) to put inside his diapers for extra absorbency if he's a really heavy wetter. If you want to try before you buy, you can order a single of each item for .99 cents each on the Tranquility website.

These are going to be bulkier than you are used too...but at 70lbs I don't think your going to have much other choice than that. If your son isn't on medicaid...then odds are your probably going to have to start ordering from them or a similar company (PM me...I know a mom who has to pay for them OOP and she has a website that she's found is the cheapest). But there is little money saving on these...one of the many reasons...parents of special needs kids go broke

Yes, he is on Medicaid. Thanks for the tip, I will have to talk to his Doctor. I appreciate the info. The cost of these are killing me!

Default Re: HELP! What do you use on a 70lb kid that's not potty trained?

i have a bed-wetter and incontinent adult at home, and also one in diapers, so... we use a lot of the following...

if you are in a pinch, you can try goodnites by huggies. their sizes go as high as 110+ lbs. they usually don't leak but i restrict fluids after dinner. i have a food lion near me so i combine a baby FLIP ($1.50/1) with a MQ (there are $1.50/1 blinkies, $1/1 IP, & $2/1 homemailer around).

there is also underjams by pampers and usually a storebrand next to them on the shelf that's a dollar or two cheaper if you don't have any coupons.

this can get expensive, i usually go through a small pack every 2 weeks. so, if i see a sale i stock up. sometimes cvs has them included in their huggies/pull-ups deals.

if you need something that is more absorbent, depends has come out with a line of prints and colors. they come in a S/M but i don't know the weight guidelines on them. There were recent $1.50/1 in SS, i think...

but definitely go with medicaid paying for them if you can, that's one of the reasons why he has it, for assistance.

take care

Disposable diapers are not the only answer. There are also washable alternatives.

Very true. Precious Dignity makes a diper for SN kids Precious Dignity — Dignities
There is more cost up front, but it's all you have to buy. You never worry about running out (you just do laundry ) And in many cases, when you out grow, you can sell.

Goodnites is what we use. They're a larger version of Pull ups. I only buy when there's a deal, and I stock up.

ETA: We use for occasional encopresis and constant enuresis problems.

check if adult underwear types like Depends (check if they come in XS or S) will work?

these will go FAMIR (free after mail in rebate) at WAG sometime next month and there's $1 MQ. the MIR prints at the register.
