Default Kindergarden next week!

I just realized next thursday is july 15th! my son starts kindergarden in a week! Excited and nervous! Sending my first born off to school! I think his sister will be sad. We will be walking. Gonna break out the stroller for his sister. she is 3 but i gotta carry his supplies with me that first day. And jordynne gets tired from walking. But its litterally right across the street. we live at the begining of the neighborhood so we are about as close as we can get! AAAAHHHHh Next wed gonna be hitting the bed early and getting up around 6:30am! This will be something to get used to now! its year around school so their schedules a lil bit different then reg school. Ive never been to a year round school myself so it will take time to get used to this!
For those of you with older ones. How was that first day of kindergarden?

Probably not the kind of story that you want to hear but our first day of school wasn't good.

When ds#1 was four, he started preschool in the afternoons, 3 days a week. DS#2, then 2, came along with me to drop off big brother. DS#1 cried, the teacher gave him a hug and distracted him so I could leave. As soon as we closed the door to the classroom, ds#2 started screaming crying.

The 2nd day was easier for ds#1, but it was the 2nd week before ds#2 stopped crying when we left off his brother. He finally figured out that brother being at school meant he got mommy to himself for a few hours! lol

The next fall, ds#1 went into kindergarten and we put ds#2 into the 3 year old preschool program 3 mornings a week. I expected ds#2 to be clingy and not want me to leave the room on his first day, but he gave me a hug and walked away from me to start playing with the train table. So I walked into the kindergarten classroom right next door with ds#1. I got him settled into his chair and he was sitting at a table with a few of his friends from preschool - I gave him a hug and he grabbed on with a vise grip around my neck and wouldn't let go, until the teacher helped peel his hands away. I walked down the hallway in tears that day because I could still hear him howling even after the door was shut!! It took him a couple of weeks before he didn't cry when I dropped him off in the kindergarten line in the cafeteria.

DS#1 will be in 3rd grade when school starts up again, and now it's all I can do to get a kiss from him when I drop him off in the drop zone out front of the school.

wow! school starting already? ours don't go back for another month and a half.

I have a 9 yo and I still remember her first day. Start NOW to ease into it. Like start picking out school clothes at night, let him help Let him pick out the absolute coolest backpack EVER..lol. We got her so involved in the preperations that she was ready to explode with excitement the first day. Whatever the wake up time and after school routine will be, start now, that was a life saver for us. She took a daily snack and I would put a smiley or heart note in the bag to give her a little smile during her day. Good luck and take lots of pictures!

They cant bring bookbags :( something about lack of classroom space. they have a school themes reusable bag to bring papers home in. I think my son wil be fine. hes been talking about school for ever now! It starts this early because it is a year round school. His sister is the one that thinks she is starting to kindergarden. I have to tell her that shes too little still but she gets to hang out with me all day! I gotta figure out how the lunch thing goes and stuff. Gotta figure out what i do with the lunch money situation. I doubt id hand it to a 5 yr old! So much to figure out and wow only a week. i was lookin at the calendar to figure out when hubby got paid and then i look and im like wait joseph starts school that same day. Next week! Guess I gotta figure out what they did with all their socks! I wish they had bookbag space! Its bad enough he doesnt get the excitement of the bus because we live soo close. he doesnt even get the excitement of a bookbag! I think ill cry more then him cuz he prob wont on his first day.

I'll be in the same place the middle of August. My 5 yr old starts kindergarten this year, and his sister will start next year.

Oh I think I'd lose my mind if we had to deal with school already...who on earth wants to learn in July...

we had bus issues both K and 1st grade first days.

Otherwise went well.

It does seem odd mid summer! the middle and highschools are both walking distance as well. Not sure if they are year around or not! Might make it confusing years ahead! i dont know what age i would let him walk alone. He would prob be in 5th grade by then! Usually they would mail something out with the teachers name etc right? For the kindergardeners wow i cannot spell that correctly! lol But half goes on the first day the 2nd day the half that did not go the first day come the 2nd day while the half that went the first day stay home. 3rd day of school they all go. This way the teacher can get to know all the students easier in smaller groups.

HI Re: Kindergarten next week!

Hi,

Wow, school already! Our kids starts in mid-August 2010. My twins will be 4 YO in August before school starts so they will be in Pre-K and quads will be 7 YO in Fall for 2nd grade. Quads will be on the cusp of 7 (mid-September birthdays).:hectic1: More quiet time for me maybe?:shrug7:

Our kids get out of school the Friday of Memorial Day's weekend yearly. Downside is that school starts mid-August yearly. Still gets the 180 days for school in though.:hectic1:

Good luck--

Foodie
