I have a 3yo and his favorite book is a pop-up kind, which makes it interactive, and he also likes to color or 'write' even on blank paper.

Maybe you could get him a religious coloring book and he can keep busy while he listens.

I also agree that he should have a time-out if he is not willing to sit still with the other kids.
