I believe he is just spitting up. He will just be sitting there happy as can be and then suddenly he is totally covered in spit up. He has started spitting up out of his nose too now-I've tried researching this online and from what I can find I guess it's pretty normal. It scares the heck out of the little guy when it starts coming out of his nose.

Other than when it comes out of his nose, he acts like he doesn't seem to mind. It just seems excessive to me. Today, until one hour after he ate he was fine, then he was spitting up like crazy-once through the nose-and several times all over to the point we soaked through 3 onesies in about 30 minutes.

invest in some good bibs...sounds like as long as his weight is ok...he isn't fussy and not choking on it...it's normal....reflux often gets a bit worse until the walk cause all the rolling , laying on there tummy and crawling puts more pressure on there tummy.

feed him in smaller amounts. instead of a 3 oz bottle every 3 hours, give him 1oz every hour....or give him 1.5oz ever 1.5hours....see if that helps, might be a little of the reflux or he might be eating too quick or too much at once....

I would think that if it is reflux you would see symptoms of discomfort like grunting, poor sleep, upset stomach, fussiness, etc. It might be that yours needs more burping than the average baby (mine were like that, but they also had reflux). I say, embrace the spit up as long as the baby is happy and gaining weight! =) And, if formula fed, consider reducing the size of the bottle and doing it more frequently as suggested by another poster. Enjoy your happy baby!! =)

My first was like this - we gave up on the bibs - towels worked better - more absorbant and bigger :-) He did have milk allergies - but there were other signs - eczema and asthma - switched him to soy and he did much better.
Rule number one with being a Mommy - if you don't feel comfortable with the info that your DR is giving - then find a different pediatrician.
But overall - as long as he is gaining weight and happy - don't worry!

My little girl did the exact same thing that you have described. She would spit up to the point of me having to carry extra clothes for me and her. She was on the zantac. We also had to change her to soy formula. She had this reflux/spit up for years.
We ended up seeing a specialist, and we were told that once we fed her, to sit her in her car seat for at least 30 minutes after she ate. It seemed to help, didn't go away, but slowed down. She was a happy baby, spelt well, and gained good.

I would get a second opinion. hope you find answers.

yeah this! My little one was a screaming crying ball of spit up for the first 6 weeks of life. soy did nothing but help the gas, he still screamed and spit up.

Added reglan (like zantac) to it, helped the screaming, not the puking...so we started feeding him 1.5 ounces every 1.5 hours. First few time was rough, he was so used to just gulping the 3 ounces so fast he was puking it all right back up. He was good like that for 3 days, so we upped him to 2 oz every 1.5 hours. He can now do 3 oz at once every 2.5 to 3 hours.

Oh and we no longer "burp him". Instead of patting his back, we rub it kind of vigorously, and his burps are no longer puky. And we feed him at nearly 90 degrees upright, and do not move him for burping, just remove the bottle, and rub his back. Has been pretty nice these last few days (THANK GOD!!!)

Yes, the feeding upright is critical. Mine also didn't respond well to the spanking the back burping method. I usually would sort of run my fingers up and down their back to get them to squirm and then they would burp. But I could guarantee if I didn't do a good job of burping (regardless of method) they would spit up. Also keep the baby elevated (upright) for 20 minutes after feeding--even if the baby is asleep. This one is hard when you are tired but it does help.
