Default Induction question...

The docs would like to possibly induce me before father's day. Talked about using the balloon, i refused. Talking about using cervadil...and i know it takes longer but i'm ok with that option. ( i have my reasons for refusing the balloon due to past traumatic experiences)

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for being induced? I was hoping to avoid this scenario, but unless i go into labor this week on my own, that is what is going to happen.

I was induced with dd (1st baby) and it wasn't that bad. I did not have a choice AT ALL due to extremely high blood pressure. But all I had to have was pitocin.

What is the reason for the induction?

For me, if you are 39 weeks and have no medical reason to be induced, I would say "no thank you". Have you tried natural methods for inducing labor? I am a firm believer in your body knows what to do, and inducing labor is not something I would do lightly.

That being said, I have been induced because of pre-e, and I would not wish that experience on anyone.

I went totally natural with #1, and it went so well I couldn't believe it. I was induced with #2, and would never ever do it again unless the baby or I were in serious danger. It was the most horrible experience I've ever been through. They did it with pitocin as well.

Unless there was a medical reason that they are wanting to do an induction-like health issues, or way past due day, I would decline.

I went 12 days over and was still 0 cm on my 12th day and never had any type of contractions at all-they were concerned because my baby was measuring almost 11 lbs, that we decided to skip the induction and go straight to a C-section. The funny thing was he was 7lbs 15 oz-so remember sonograms can be way off!

That's true! They told me #2 was over 9 lbs, so they talked me into induction, she was only 7.9. I so could have waited. Wish I would have.

I was induced with pitocin after several hours of labor and my old bones were not moving, never got past 6 cm dilated and babies heart rate was dropping with each contraction.

They gave me a good trial at labor, but even with pitocin, no go...ended up C-section.

I didn't mind being induced to help labor along (had labor already but not producing any changes) but unless there is a reason, I wouldn't sign up for it. Let nature takes its course if that's a possibility.

I agree with the other posters, unless there is a medical reason to be induced wait it out. That being said, I was induced with my third, he was 10 days late. My doctor flat out told me that the reason he wanted to induce me was because he wanted to cover his butt-in not so many words :) I was already contracting pretty regularly when I was induced although the contractions were not strong. The pitocin basically jump started my labor, and I delivered an 1 hr and 40 minutes after the induction started.

If your due date is the 26th unless there is a really good reason for induction tell the doctor you would like to wait until after your due date. Ask your doctor what your "Bishop score" is, the higher that score, the more likely you will have a successful induction.

I was induced with both of my kids with no problems. I was only in labor for 4 hours with both. With DS they induced me because I was past my due date and he was getting too big and I was too little. With DD they induced me 2 weeks early because my amniotic fluid was very low.

They want to induce me b/c he's big- already the ultrasound says he's 9lb 9oz....and its more than that- his head is measuring 10cm plus.

I'm not sure about being induced either...but this is what they are recommending. I really wanted to go into labor on my own, or at least try. I'm guessing his head size is more the reason why they don't want to wait too long b/c its just going to get bigger & bigger. ???

I have no idea what you are talking about when you refer to bishop score. what is that?
