Default 4/16 Updated again in post #1) For those that had pre-eclampsia...

Updated 4/16: Went again for the repeat testing. Protein skyrocketed from 100 on Wed. to 300+ today. Platelets dropped slightly (was normal on Wed.). Was sent home today with a 24-hr urine collection and instructions to come back on Sunday for repeat testing again. This time the "inkling" is I will be admitted Sunday for the duration. BP was 167/90 when I first got there (after walking 500 miles LOL), but the other 10 or so readings fluctuated between 115/60 - 102/48.

Update: Went to routine 34wk (33.4) OB appointment. BP 136/90 but had a "very high amount of protein" in my urine. OB sent me to the hospital for testing. Al labwork came back fine other than protein in urine and a mild UTI (which they said the penicillin for my strep throat should take care of). BP was all over the place: 136/90, 135/52, 106/59, 135/66, but never passed 136/90.

I have very very mild swelling in my feet. I've lost yet another pound. I don't have headaches, am not dizzy, etc.

I have to go back to the hospital on Friday morning for a repeat of everything they did today.

Okay, so I just read the "did you have your children on time" thread and
saw a LOT of people who were induced because of pre-eclampsia.

I have to say, I did not expect so many people to have gone into spontaneous labor at 33wks+ (I'm 32wks), so I got kinda freaked out

So, do you guys remember what your bp was when your doc said...time to induce????

I am "obese" so everyone expects me to get pre-eclampsia (didn't with dd#1). I've actually lost 12lbs this pregnancy. I had gained a bunch after DD#1 was born (dropped a lot after her birth, then gained everything + back). I now weigh 1lb MORE than I did the day I delivered her, but it's still 12lbs less than my highest weight.

My bp at my 32wk checkup was 128/82.

My BP has been around 140/80 for my entire pregnancy and they have never said I have pre-eclampsia. I have no other signs but my BP has been at high-end of normal or a little high every visit(but when monitored at home it is around 125/80). They did an ultrasound a week ago just to check baby's growth because lower birth weight is possible with high blood pressure, but she is growing just fine (she was estimated at 6lbs 10oz). They are inducing me next thursday, and I will be 39 weeks exactly.

Preeclampsia is more than just elevated blood pressure. One of the signs is spilling protein into your urine, which is why they do a pee test at every appointment.

My bp was really high (like 180 over something) when I was admitted to the hospital at 29w2d. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days, with daily bloodwork and 24 hour urine tests (where I have to keep all my pee in a jug and they test it daily). On the morning of the first day of week 30, I went to the bathroom and was bleeding... They did an ultrasound and determined that I had a placental abruption and they needed to deliver my daughter right away. She was here about 2 hours later.

Your bp doesn't sound high. Normal range goes up to 120/80 and that's normal resting rate, not "nervous because I am getting my bp checked" rate. :)

My normal bp is 100/60, and the day I was induced it was 160/100 with no going down after resting and laying on my left side. I also had severe swelling in my hands and feet, like I gained 10 lbs in one week between 38 and 39 weeks when you really shouldn't be gaining much at that point. I was full term when I was induced so maturity wasn't an issue.

Your bp sounds normal. Other signs of pre-e are swelling, protein in your urine, issues with kidney and liver function (determined by blood test), and headaches. If you have 2 or more symptoms (I think it's 2), you can be diagnosed with pre-e.

If I were you, I would not worry about it because that will make your bp higher. Just rest, stay hydrated, and enjoy your DD. :)

Ditto to all the other PP's! Drink lots of water and don't worry about it. Your bp sounds fine. Also, I think I remember reading that it's less likely to be a problem in later pregnancies. Granted that it's not unheard of, but usually if pregnancy #1 was o.k., the rest will be too. Anyone else remember if I'm right here? I don't have my "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book with me to check on that one. (Loved that book, BTW! Really put a lot of my fears to rest while preggo. Go get one if you don't have it already!!!)

From the research I did, it is more common in first pregnancies but not unheard of it later pregnancies. During my second pregnancy, my doc was very vigilant about checking my bp and urine but she did not think it could happen again - just wanted to be prepared if it did. I actually had a picture perfect pregnancy the second time around!

I had really high blood pressure with DS, but they didn't confirm pre-eclampsia as much as they "suggested" that might have been the problem after he was born at 37 weeks. The delivery nurse said I had it because my BP was sky high when I went in after my water broke. I had it with DD, and I suffered so much worse with her. I had raging headaches, swelling, and all kinds of pain. I had lots of other problems with DD too.

I literally called the doctor's office every day, multiple times a day for 4 days and went in to get checked out because the headaches were so bad. I would wake up from sleeping all night and my bp would be 175/99. I knew something was wrong because I felt so bad. Finally, on the Thursday call-in the OB on call suggested I do some additional testing because nothing was bringing my bp down. I had do the 24 hour urine collection on Friday, and they admitted me on Saturday and induced me Saturday night. This was when I was at 37 weeks with DD.

I had a great pregnancy until about 32 wks and went in for my check up and was told my blood pressure was high 180/? (dont remember) they sent me to the hospital immediately to check the baby. They sent me home on bed rest. Next morning I wake up & use the restroom and was bleeding. I delivered him that day. I was diagnosed with :
HELLP syndrome: A syndrome featuring a combination of "H" for hemolysis (breakage of red blood cells), "EL" for elevated liver enzymes, and "LP" for low platelet count (an essential blood clotting element).

My son was premature and in NICU for about a week. I was also hospitalized for a week also because I was so sick. They couldnt get platelet count to stabalize. Funny thing was I had no symptoms except headaches & swollen feet & hands.

My BP was borderline high the last week of my twin pregnancy. I had no issues through the rest of the pregnancy. It happened so fast they never did tell me what the BP actually was, but I did have HELLP syndrome like PP. My twins were full-term and the doctor was so concerned about HELLP that she decided to go forward with an emergency C-section at 37.5 weeks (baby B was breech which is why C-sect was a necessity).

Like PP, I had no known symptoms. As a matter of fact, I'd gone for a repeat of blood work the morning my babies were born. I had actually been shopping at Rite Aid, Target, out to lunch and Kroger with DS #1 that day. I was actually doing my Giant Eagle shopping when the doctor's office called and said DH & I needed to be at the hospital within the hour to meet the doctor. I had no clue anything was wrong and I felt fine. They didn't even give me time for my FIL (90 minutes away) to get to our house to pick up DS. I had to drop him off at a friend's and FIL had to pick him up there. The doctor was that concerned about me once she saw the blood work.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well. I'll keep everyone in my thoughts for a safe delivery!
