I was just about to post about the slings...didn't know about the other items. Those Infantino slings are VERY common and sold in Walmart...I had one for DS#1 that I used briefly when he was first born - very scary indeed!
I know this isn't the right section, BUT I always forget to check over there, and these are injuring and killing babies!!!

I am glad the infintimo (sp) slings are finally getting attention. I knew about the chin to chest thing with those things before DS was born last year. I'm sure others knew about it before then!
I do want to note ONLY the cradle carry slings are involved in this. I have a moby, and a ring sling and these ARE NOT putting kids at unnecessary risk. (nosey old busy bodies in the store)
My sister gave me one of those slings for my son- they'dused it with their daughter and she loved it. Luckily my son couldn't stand it.
I have one of these and was going to reuse it with our new little one. Thanks for the info!!!

You should research ANY baby product before you use it with your baby. Just because it's on sale doesn't mean it's safe. Even safe items can be used incorrectly and become dangerous.
Positional asphyxia is possible with any pouch type sling when the baby is tiny. The solution is to place a rolled towel or blanket under the baby to raise them up in the sling, until they have better head control.

I used the sling (it's actually still in my van, because I've used it in the past couple of weeks). I have no problems with it. I keep my hand on the babys chest at all times and I am constantly (every minute or so) peeking in on him.
But, I'm still going to trade it in on a play mat. Then I'm going to buy a Moby. :)

I got one of those bulky bag-type slings at my baby shower, and I was never able to use it, because my son could never stand being bunched up. I used Moby-type carriers, mei tais, and ring slings, all of which are safer.
For those of you who use baby carriers, check out this website. It has safe positioning techniques and information about all different kinds of carriers. They've been talking about the dangers of suffocation in bulky, bag-type slings for YEARS over there. It's so tragic that someone's precious babies died as a result of these slings.
