Default Encouraging news for those having trouble potty training.

My 2 1/2 yo is potty trained (well a few accidents).

My 3 1/2 yo is NOT. Not even trying, refuses, can't figure it out.

It isn't about when you are ready. It is about when they are ready.

Cause I've done the same with both of them when potty training two at the same time.

DS #1 trained at 2 1/2 with literally zero issues, wearing a diaper at night for a few months, but it was way too easy.

DS #2 just turned 3 and has a temper-tantrum when I say let's go sit on the potty. 95% of the time he is happy, well-behaved, and follows simple requests, except this. I refuse to fight with him, so I just drop it.

My son is 2 1/2 and hasn't wanted anything to do with the potty, until today. We were at Kmart and he saw a cheapy little potty and asked for it and put it in the cart....we will see if this is the start of something good!!

great post! I wish i had seen something like this a year or so ago. My kiddo had just turned 4 when we were about to just give up all together. I really thought it was my fault that he had no interest and had a million people tell me that their kids were trained at almost 2 or even 3 and that we were "behind schedule." We got him in school and his teacher said he was just fine. She told me that being around the kids that are trained would at least interest him and once he was, she'd get him trained. That was that. It took him a week to get interested and 2 weeks to train. She told me "see? he just wasn't ready yet. Be happy he's unique and goes at his own pace. it's a good sign."

Mine just turned four and he hates the potty. We have tried and tried. My relatives have been on our case to get him trained. Preschool says they are working with him but I don't see any improvement. Last Saturday I went through six sets of pants and big boy pants trying to get him to go. He would just pee and then cry I'm wet. Any tips anyone has? DH says he isn't ready but he knows when he is wet or stinky.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

You cannot force a child to potty train. So what I usually suggest is if it isn't working...just let it be fore a few months and try again.

Mine is 3 1/4, and we are bribing him with a new swingset to learn how. Apparently that's how my mom got me trained. LOL

We aren't above bribes in this family either. The only pain...DS would decided the "reward" wasn't worth it any longer. DS has been "working on it" since he was 2. He told my mom on his 2nd birthday that he wanted a potty. He was almost 100% day time potty trained by the time he was 2 years 1 month. Then my mom left (she was visiting)...of course he didn't want to do it any longer (grammy was gone...why bother I guess. UGH!) Anyway, we struggled on and off for another 2 years. He's now 4 and for the most part he's day time potty trained (of course...he's been 4 since december and we dealt with major setbacks for no real reason around valentines day...so who knows?!?). My second DS is going to be 3 in July and I've got no motivation to even start with him. I'm due with my third in May and the thought of daily battles with my youngest isn't worth it...make sense? I just wish there was a quick fix. Oh well...
