Default Need some Med advice please

I am 38 weeks pregnant. Yesterday evening, I started in with a slight headache, sore throat, and earache in both ears. Woke up this morning and things are worse. I called my OB's nurse because I wasn't sure what they would want me to do (plus they are closed on Friday's and I knew I'd better talk with someone while I could). She told me that unless I was running a fever, which I am not, there was nothing they could do, which I totally understand. She told me that I could take any of the over the counter meds for colds & flu other than Nyquil products to help relieve some of the pain. This is where I am turning to you guys for advice from experienced mom's who have been through this (this is our first)-what would you recommend I take, what has worked for you when you had these same symptions during pregnancy? Thanks for your help!

Unless you are utterly miserable, I wouldn't take anything and just let your body work on its own until what sounds like a virus is gone.

The most natural approach would be:Gargling with salt water will help your throat, a drop or two of peroxide may help your ears and a cold pack on your head to shrink the blood vessels.

I believe it was Tylenol I took during my last pregnancy, but for sciatic pain. That was 7 years ago and I was doing my own prenatal care and my friend's mom, a nurse, told me how much I could take safely. I'd rather not share how much because everyone is different. If your nurse knows your history and said you could take anything over the counter except Nyquil, I've read that "Tylenol" is safest during pregnancy; this is just regular Tylenol not cold formulas.

I, personally, would just let the virus run its course and you should feel better in a few days. Congratulations on your new baby!

I was told at 36 weeks with DD not to take anything over the counter except Tylenol because some medications can affect blood pressure in a negative way. I was being monitored for high blood pressure anyway, and I hadn't been able to take much of anything the whole pregnancy.

I would try the salt water, perioxide, and cold pack remedy as suggested above.

I would not take anything either. Was the person you talked to an actual nurse, or the medical assistant for your DR.? If you have a good phamacist, they are usually a wealth of information for alternate ideas(other than meds). Ever tried a netty pot?

Thanks ladies for all of your advice, I appreciate it! I think I am going to skip the meds and just wait this out. I did take some Tylenol and eat something and am feeling better. Thanks Again!!!!!
