That is an understatement!!! I look at those 'meat sticks' and just wonder! LOL eeewwwww

    I wouldn't worry about it.

There is no reason a baby under one even needs meat. Now to do an entire Vegan diet...you need to do it under a doctors care IMO...because you've got to make sure they are getting enough fat for the first 2 years...but until your child is big enough to eat something like a chicken nugget or very ground up hamburger...I just wouldn't stress over it. As long as he's getting cheese, yogurt ect.r...he'll be just fine.
so far, no cheese, yogurt....to young. But he will certainly be getting them!!

I am not vegetarian, but try to be...My husband is from india and refuses to eat beef, pork but does eat chicken, so that's how we raise our ds, to eat mostly vegetarian and occasionally chicken. Now when he was a baby he would eat practically anything people would give him and people did try to give him beef eventhough i told them we didn't feed him that and i know he's had it a bit and it would make me cringe everytime it happened. But slowly you will train your child up with your views. With ds, i tell him, like when he sees a commercial of a hamburger and he says he wants that, i tell him, that is a cow, it isn't very healthy, etc. So he won't willingly eat beef at 3 1/2. I know it will be different for you because your dh eats the meat so your lo may get mixed signals in the house. For right now I would say don't go out of your way to feed him the meat, but since your dh eats it, you may have to let your lo have it sometimes. When he's older educate him on nutrition and why you don't eat meat and why your dh does so he can make his own decision, hth.

There is a great cookbook that's called Better than Peanut Butter and Jelly that I use to make fast vegetarian meals for my girls... we feed the girls lots of iron rich foods and they LOVE beans, which are also great finger foods.

I eat chicken, hubby eats all meat & we're raising the girls vegetarian so they can decide for themselves when they are older.

Awesome!!! I will look for that cookbook!!! I guess as long as we teach him to eat healthy, it shouldn't matter. I will let him make his own choice, as I believe it IS a choice and should never be forced upon someone. Just completely grosses me out! LOL

I have been a vegetarian for 30 years. DH is not. When we had DD (now 20) we raised her meat free. She ate dairy & loved tofu & beans. I always said it would be her choice, once she could understand. At age 4 she had a meltdown, wanting hot dogs. After a lot of explaining about meat, she made the choice, so from 4-8yo she ate hot dogs & chicken noodle soup. At 8 she gave it up & chose to be vegetarian which she is to this day. I sent DS (now 15) to a day care where they fed them lunch. DS did not eat the alternative meal (PB&J) so I chose to let him eat meat. He was too young to make the choice. To this day, he only eats chicken & hot dogs, but it is a matter of taste, nothing else. We have separate dishes & sliverware, too. I also do not cook meat, so if they want it they have to make it.
