Default Medela Breast Pump question

I used a Lansinoh double electric pump with my first and I hardly pumped anything b/c its just not very strong. So, I'm 34 weeks and am looking at buying a Medela pump in style and just wondering if there are any good deals out there or what your recommendation is on buying used. Thanks!

I really liked my Medela PIS Advanced. Too bad DD wasn't interested in bottles.

There are almost never deals on them. I ended up buying mine at the hospital.

You can buy new tubing and such for used ones if you want to... that's available at BRU.

I have the Pump in Style double pump and I love it. When I had my first child he was not nursing well in the hospital so the lactation consultant gave me a prescription for the pump so I paid nothing out of pocket. It wouldn't hurt to ask or you could contact your insurance company to see if they offer any reimbursement if you purchase one yourself

I was also able to get my Medela PISA through my insurance. I only ended up paying $70 for it. In order to have my insurance cover it I had to get a prescription from my OB and order the pump through an approved DME company.

Definitely check with your insurance company first before buying one out of pocket!

I liked the Medela PISA, but then again I have nothing else to comapre it to. I do wish I had gotten the Medela Freestyle b/c I found holding the darn bottles to be a major pain, but that's my only complaint.

I used a medela in the hospital and loved it, but since DD was such a good nurser and my lacation consultant said that I wouldn't need one. I did have a manual that stunk, it leaked all the time. Well DD didnt take bottles well at first esp. when we were somewhere public. Unfortunately I had to switch to formula because I just couldn't keep up with the nursing and would of like to give her more bm. So anywho in my opinion def. go with a medela, they are the best and they are super super quiet.

I have the Medela PISA this time. So far, I'm loving it. I just hate having to plug it up (the outlets aren't always easy to get to)... I'm just too lazy, I guess. :D

I had a cheap Evenflow single electric, with DS1, but it was awful. It bit the dust after 6 months. I got a Playtex manual after that, and I go back and forth between it and the Medela. It depends on the time of day, how much time I have, how I feel, etc.

Don't count on your insurance paying for it.

I called my insurance company beforehand and was told that all I needed to do was get the prescription, buy it and submit the receipt for reimbursement. So I did, and it turns out that my plan did NOT cover it... even though I specifically asked beforehand.

I highly recommend the Pump In Style. I didn't like actual breastfeeding, so I'm much more comfortable pumping and bottle feeding my babies. I am using it with twins right now. I also have an Avent Isis hand pump, and it's junk. It falls apart when I'm using it.

I LOVED my Medela Pump In Style. I got an older model that didn't do the new advanced suction thing & it seemed to work much better (for me). I got it on ebay for around $100 and bought new tubing for it online. It has a built in cooler & kept everything cold for 10+ hours. I re-sold on Craig's List for $100 once I was done (after 2 kids it was still going strong). :)

The one I have was my aunt's and her oldest child is 17. Still works great! She had 6 children, my sister used it for her one child and I used it for my 3 (all with new tubing, of course).
