HELP Enfamil vs Store Brand Formula

I am looking to save on formula. I am currently using Enfamil with my son and it can be very expensive if you don't have formula checks or coupons for it. So I was wanting to compare Enfamil formula with Store brand formula (particularly Wal-mart brand formula---Parent choice) Has anyone every switch to Parent choice or any other store brand and found it to be the same. I looked at the ingredients in both of them yesterday at the store and they were the same exact ingredients. Now I use store brand medicine, but I didn't want to use the formula cause that's his food and I didnt' want my baby is be w/o. So what I'm asking is will/do you use store brand formula sometimes as well as known formulas like Enfamil and Similac....Also the Gerber Good start formula, whats your take on that as well....I get coupons/formula checks for those as well... Please help a confused trying to save money MOM

Default Re: Enfamil vs Store Brand Formula

I use PC brand (gentle formula) as well as Enfamil Gentlease (I mix both for DD). I like it o.k. - smells kinda funny compared to Enfamil but we hadn't had any problems with it ans it's a lot cheaper when I'm out of formula checks.

FYI - PC brand does have coupons as well. They are a little bit harder to come by but I think they are one of those places that will send them once a month if you call and request them.

Like you said... this is his food. Formula produced and sold in the US is HIGHLY regulated and has to meet standards. The reason the generics say "compare to Enfamil" is that they are pretty much the exact same thing. I would see if you could get a sample or buy a small can to try the Parent's Choice before fully switching, just to make sure that there are no issues.

With my first I switched him from NGS to Target Brand formula. We had no problems with it. The formula is regulated very heavily by the FDA. I have a sample of the Gentle Parent's Choice, and the Milk Based Parent's Choice. I can find a big enough envie and mail these to you if you would like.

PM me if you want these 2 samples to try out.

I used the Target brand formula with both of my kids. The pediatricians say it is the same thing as the name brand. Another friend used Parent's Choice with one of her children. She really liked it (and the price). I think it is no different than serving yourself generic cereal or peanut butter. It is the same thing, for less money.

I used Walmart brand after my boys were about 4 months old. They had stomach issues early on and I found that Enfamil dissolved a lot better. It didn't leave the powder substance (but if your not rushed and can mix the store brand well...I saw no big difference. They are now four and two and are average size and smart as a whip! So, go ahead give it a shot.

my daughter just turned 9 months and she has been eating enfamil formula. i use both the powder and liquid, but powder the most. i am lucky that some of my family memebers have wic and use good start and once in awhile when they go get their good start, the catalina machine will spit out a manufacturer coupon to save $5 on any size enfamil powder coupon or bogo enfamil powder up to $13.85 . i have brought a couple from ebay also. paired these coupons up with a store coupon like at cvs and you got yourself some cheap enfamil formula! (a couple weeks ago, cvs had a printable coupon for 5 off 20 purchase. so buy 2 small enfamil powders for 14.99 each = 29.98 totaled. use the cvs 5 off 20 puchase, that brings it down to 24.98. then use the bogo man. coupon (that takes off 13.85), bringing down your total to 11.13 then lastly use the 5 man. coupon bring down your subtotal to 6.13! thats 3.065 a can! if you live in no. cal, there are cvs coupons available. i hope i help.

Unless you have a baby with special needs, I used EVERY kind of formula on my son NGS, Walmart's Parent's Choice, Enfamil, Similac, Members Mark aka Sams Club) - only difference is mixability.
Also, don't forget! you pediatrician has a ton of samples... ask!

We tried several brands for my older daughter. Everything constipated her except Enfamil. With my younger one, she refused Enfamil and Target brand. But does Great w/ Similac. They are both pretty picky I guess. But we did give the others a shot at least. Good luck.
