My younger sister has been diagnosed (finally) with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) after years of being undiagnosed/misdiagnosed. She is currently pregnant (first u/s is this Thursday) and I was wondering if there is anyone else here that has been through this?

Yes I have it, was diagnosed about 4 years ago I guess. Did your sis get pregnant on her own or have to use fertility medicine? I had my DD before I was diagnosed (always had "issues" though since I was a teenager) but if I had wanted more children I probably would have had to go on medicine.
She got pregnant on her own! Sadly, last year she did mc and was heartbroken, so we are really crossing our fingers for her this time!!! Her 'issues' have been going on for years until she finally found a dr that knew about PCOS and was finally able to diagnose her with it. Her and I are actually wondering if I have it as well since I have many of the same symptoms and have for years! When her cholestrol (bad and good) came back all screwy, that is when her dr started really questioning her about her past symptoms.

It is very hard to diagnose, there isn't a way to really know "for sure" if you have it, just based on your situation and symptoms, the doctor comes to this conclusion. At least, that's the way I understood it. My cholestoral is good, it's my tryglyerides that are high (runs in my family) and I think they also test your glucose level. I'm not diabetic, but I *think* my glucose levels indicated that I had PCOS (along with all the other things, no period, etc.) I think mine actually is triggered by my weight....right now I am heavier than I would like and if I could get my weight down I would probably be OK.
I have PCOS. I had to take fertility meds to have DD. Congrats to your sis for being able to get preggo on her own! I don't ovulate on my own at all, so the meds forced me to ovulate and I was able to conceive.

I was just diagnosed after many years of misdiagnosis.I'm 32 & never was able to concieve.I've been on the meds to treat it for about 3 months now,& I'm slowly starting to see a difference.I've dropped about 12 pounds & my facial hair is not growing as fast.Still no monthly though.
Rebate Queen ~ Yes, it is very hard to diagnose, and sadly there are so many women with it that have not been diagnosed for a variety of reasons, or they aren't counted b/c they were able to get pregnant on their own......
She was that her sugar levels were off as well, but isn't diabetic, just intolerant ( i just went completely blank.....). And yes, her weight seems to be a part of it as well. She had started taking Metaformin but it didn't sit well with her, so she spoke with a friend of mine (who has PCOS AND has 4 kids) about natural things that helped her.
~Cooper: she doesn't always have a regular period, and skips often.

I did get pregnant on my own, but that was a long time ago. If I remember correctly it was right after a time when I was actually regular for a few months (due to having a friend living with me and somehow getting on schedule with her) and then when she moved out I stopped. I assumed it was because she left and I was back to the way I was before. But I actually was pregnant I guess. I didn't find out until 5 and a half months later though.....LOL
I know that I am only 'regular' when I am with women all the time, or on bc! Otherwise, I move week by week throughout the month. Never ever the same time every month. It has always moved through the month for me....very annoying
