Kids Training Bra

So I'm beginning to think that my 7 1/2 yr old might need a training bra has she has humps/bumps (whatever they are called). This is my first child (and only if I can help it) and I don't know what to do:shrug7:. I Googled and the age range is 8-13 yrs old and there were suggestions of getting the sports bra as a first bra. So my questions are:

1. What type of bra did you start with for your daughter?
2. At what age did you get her one?
3. What stores can u find good deals on bras for young girls?

I really would appreciate any help or suggestions from you moms out there . I am feeling kind of embarrassed right now b/c I feel it's too early.

Default Re: Training Bra

I'm glad I saw this post. Don't go by her age, go by her body. If she is growing she needs the support. Both physically and emotionally. I remember being young and 'blooming' and not having bras because I was "too young". Trust me she knows they are there and if you wait because she seems to young it will only hurt her. The other kids see them too. Check the clearance racks at clothing stores, walmart, target, I see training bras on them all the time for just a few dollars. Sports bras would be fine so would cotton regular ones. Please keep an 'open door' policy about it and talk to her, growing into my dd size I never had a proper fitting bra and is was horrifically embarrassing. Bras are just another piece of clothing, please do just stick to modest colored cotton, not the lacy/rhinestoned 'training bras' I see. Yes 7-8 is too young to be sexy but not too young for clothing to keep her comfortable and modest. Talk to her, its a tough age over the next few years. I hope this helps :)

1. What type of bra did you start with for your daughter? my daughters both have started with a sports bra
2. At what age did you get her one? As soon as I noticed "ant hills," they were wearing one. My older was probably 7 1/2 or 8, and the younger was closet to 9 (she's lankier).
3. What stores can u find good deals on bras for young girls? I got theirs at Target. We have since found some really cute little shirt bras at Macy's in the girls department that are great! They are like a really tight tank top, so they are supportive, but they also feel less "silly" about them than regular bras.

I would purchase whatever is most comfortable for her and that will blend in with her clothing. Sports bra's can be a good one...just make sure there not too tight for her.

My mother only bought me one crappy bra...ever. I will not do that to my kids (mine are too young to wear bra's yet).

My DD has been wearing a bra since age 7 and yes she was needing it to hide her little bumps. I hate to see little girls running around the playground with the bumps showing through their shirts.... LOL.

Default Re: Training Bra

I was several years older when I got my first bra, but I was a late bloomer. Anyway, my mom got me a soft training bra and made me feel better about it because "all my friends were starting to wear bras" so it was like we all did it together. That made it less awkward for me. Definitely get her one if she needs it. I remember being at that age where everybody starts wearing a bra, and if you WEREN'T wearing one, you might have gotten teased.

The only problem with sports bras is that they can sit close to the neck and sometimes you can see the straps peeking out from under your shirt, if that makes sense... BUT they are comfortable and easy to put on since your DD won't have to deal with the hooks on the back like on a traditional bra.

Once my mother took me "bra shopping" and I was so embarrassed. I was relieved when she would just buy me a bra and put it in my room for me. I hated going out in public and shopping for bras with her. Now it's no big deal but when I was little, I was really self-conscious about it.

my DD started with wearing tight tank tops under everything (which they do now all the time anyway) so no one could see her bra and tease her. by the time she went into 6th grade she was wearing spots bras which the school asked that all girls wore something anyways (so when they changed for gym...). she is now in 7th grade and wearing a 34B and we get her bras at Rue21 (i can get 2/$3 on sale).

Thanks for all the responses so far, I hope there will more to come. I am dreading the monthly visitor conversation. I remember getting mine and I was so excited. My DD knows kind of b/c she has made comments when I have had mine. So she's not completely in the dark. Did I mention I'M NOT PREPARED FOR THIS.
