Where do you store your diaper stockpile? Is in the garage OK?

OK, so this is probably a silly question coming from me seeing as how DF and I don't have kids yet and probably won't for another 2 years , but with all the amazing diaper deals (especially when I can get them for free!) I figure why not start to stock up now? I know it's going to be a huge expense when we do start having kids!

DF is installing shelving in the garage for me, and I thought that might be a good place to store the packs of diapers I get. Does anyone else store theirs in the garage? Will I have a problem with humidity or mildew or anything, or are the packs sealed well enough that the diapers should stay good for several years?

I would put them in garage I think they would be fine. I store all my wipes and cereal and stuff like that in garage. I don't have extra pull ups but if I did I would store them in garage. I have store units in the garage also that I store stuff on.

As long as you dont get mice in your garage you would be okay, but it would make for some awesome winter bedding for them if it gets really cold in your area during winter!

I would store them in my garage, if I had them in a Rubbermaid-type bin. If you are sure no critters can get to them, then they should be fine. If you have any doubts, then I suggest putting them in storage bins.

I'm in the same situation. We're trying to have a baby & I've got about 25 packs of diapers so far. I have them on a shelf in the garage but now that I've seen these posts I'm thinking I should probably get a storage container for them.

do you have an extra bedroom closest at the moment? I know some people don't have extra rooms for stockpiles, but i would put them in a closet before the garage. I am lucky enough that we have ample room for stockpile, tons and tons of built in shelves in all the closets, kitchen, pantry, i could even store them in the living room in the built in shelving bookcases there (in the bottom with the cabinet doors). But my future lo's diaper stockpile is in my ds's closet right now, he has a walk in closet and the top shelf and part of the middle shelve has about 20 packs of diapers in it at them moment. IF you didn't have another option the garage would be okay, and if you are worried about vermin, maybe double bag them and put them in storage bins as a pp suggested.

i would think that the bags would be sealed pretty well, but i have had bags tear sometimes, so check them to make sure about that before storing them.

I wouldn't put mine in the garage, but that is just me. I store mine in the nursery closet...at one point I had 50+ jumbo packages in there. I would worry about them smelling funny (garage smell) after 2+ years out there. I also think it would make a great place for animals to make their beds etc. It probably depends on your garage....

My first choice was the top shelf of the kid's closet.

But they are usually in the garage, not in any kind of container. Just stacked. Nothing has messed with them, and I know that I have a rogue mouse in there somewhere.

I like the idea of bins - I think I will pick some up at Kmart this week - they are on sale and I have a bunch of catalinas expiring. And I'm not really worried about vermin getting into them - I am crazy careful about bugs and have the floors of my garage lined with boric acid and I spray out there at least once a month. Any bug or mouse comes in my garage, they wouldn't last long enough to make it to the diapers!

bins are a good investment when you are having kids anyway. Last year for part of my sisters shower gift i got a big plastic storage bin with diapers in it (i fit 9 packs sizes 1-4) and a smaller bin full of wipes. I thought once the diapers were used she could store baby items in the bins or whatever...
