Did anyone have this symptom during pregnancy?

This is my second pregnancy and I have had this problem with both. I have what I describe as excess mucus in my throat. No matter how hard I swallow, it doesn't go down. Every time I swallow it moves just a little but doesn't go away.*Gag* This makes the morning sickness much worse. I said that if I could just cough/throw it up I would feel so much better. But that doesn't work either. After the birth of my DD it was like it disappeared. I remember looking at my mom the next day and telling her it was finally gone. It was such a relief!

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, is there anything that worked to get rid of it? Or at least to decrease the feeling that I need to throw up everytime I swallow?

Excessive mucus and stuffiness is really common during pregnancy - I tend to get the sniffles a lot. Sounds to me like you have post nasal drip (mucus draining from your nose down the back of your throat). Ask your OB if there is anything you can take for it - Mucinex worked for DH with post-nasal drip last year (unrelated to pregnancy, of course :).

yes- and it gets on my dh's nerves when i clear my throat so often but it is so aggravating!!! I just take Claritin D to dry me up and then keep a tissue around to spit in. I know it sounds gross but I do it at home, and ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Try drinking something hot and then clear your throat/cough and spit it out.

I am not pregnant however I have the same problem. I have been told that it is from acid reflux.

What I do for relief is as a PP posted I drink something hot in the mornings or whenever it acts up & I also use chewable rolaids & it helps.

Another thing that works for me is eating 1/2 of an apple. I read about it in numerous places & decided to give it a try & it works.

I have found that using nose strips like Breathe Right also helps as the acid can travel so far up your throat that it can get in your sinus' & ears. The nights I do not use the strips I have noticed I have a more difficult time the next day.

Yes & the newer sour Tic Tacs where the ONLY thing that came close to helping. Also, mint gave me morning sickness so I never tried the mint flavor, but peppermint is supposed to help... I now have a lifetime aversion to mint!!!

The excess mucus went away at about 7 1/2 months for me both times. I feel your pain!!!! I hope you find something that helps :)

I have the excess mucus in the morning when I wake up. My nose is stuffy and I am all mucusy...I don't notice it during the day, just in the morning. I haven't really figured out anything that has helped. I just sort of deal with it and once I sort of clear up, I will eat breakfast. It did make my morning nausea worse, but now I am 13 weeks and the morning nausea is almost nonexistent.

I could have written this post myself, except that I'm 13 weeks, too, and the morning sickness is picking up! It's been almost non-existant until this past week. But the mucus/sniffles problems I have are always in the morning and usually clear up within 2-3 hours after I've gotten up and moving for the day.
