    I'm sorry if someone already mentioned this, but if there is a Stride Rite outlet near you, you can usually find cheap shoes. I got a pair for $14 that were wide width. I like the way they hold up. Plus, like you, I had trouble finding the wides elsewhere. Good luck! It sounds like others had some great suggestions also. I didn't even think of looking at New Balance!

    payless carries wide width in toddlers in crosstrekkers sneakers and also dress shoes too! it's bogo right now! you can look online....maybe it's a possibility?

    I buy used stride rites on ebay, usually less than $10 per pair and I buy them only is good to very good condition.

    I usually get my son's at Payless and have been extremely pleased with them. He is a climber extreme and runs ALL over the place and has never falled or slipped due to his shoes. I usually pay about $10 and they definetely last me till the next size comes, and I save them for my next little one. For some reason though my 2 yr old has STINKY feet, so yes, i always throw his sandals & sneaks in the wash machine, but i usually let them airdry otherwise the dryer makes all sorts of noises from the shoes hitting the side as they spin!
