Can somebody tell me what this weird baby item is?

I picked up a bag of baby clothes for my cousin off FreeCycle. I was sorting through them with my mom and we found this weird snappy thing in there. I jokingly called it a "baby thong".

We don't know what it's for! Can somebody clue us in? I don't think it's something made any more. Probably from the mid-80s to mid-90s? First pic shows it totally unsnapped and second pic is snapped up.

If you can figure this out then I've got another odd piece of rectangular fabric with a slit halfway through one side I found in my grandma's house that nobody knows what it's for...:shrug7:

My guess is you snap a pacifier to the bottom snap...just a guess though.

my only thought is maybe something that would have held a pacifier? does it snap into a small loop at the bottom part and then looks like it may have gone around the baby's neck?

It might be part of an outfit or to a bouncer or something.

I was thinking pacifier holder too...I've just never seen one like that! It appears to snap around the baby's neck. The weird thing is the little yellow bow appears to go around the back of the baby (since the garment tag is sewn behind the bow) which means if you attached a pacifier it would dangle down the baby's spine...

LOL!! I don't have a pic of it yet! I found it in my grandma's dresser after she died. It was in a Dollar Tree bag. It's the size of a small throw or baby blanket but of a very thin fleecy material. It's hemmed all the way around and has a slit halfway through one of the short ends. The slit is also hemmed. At first I thought Christmas tree skirt because of the slit but those are round! She either bought at a cheap store or possibly ordered it from Lillian Vernon or Harriet Carter...

I tried modeling it like a toga...but my mom said she didn't think that's what it was for either!
