Yep, with both kids.

I had to be paid in full by 1 month before my due date.

Default Re: Paying for childbirth before childbirth

Ive had a big range of scenarios with pregnancy expenses :
DD1 - 1992 - Military Hospital. Cost $17.10 which covered my meals. Paid at the window on our way out of the hospital LOL

DD2 - 1993 - HMO plan. Paid OB portion (10% $221) over course of pregnancy. No bill for Hospital b/c DH was employed there.

DS1- 1995 - Same as above but only visited OB once to establish a repor for emergency use only. Didnt pay for anything after that one visits copay.

DS2- 1997 - Same as above ( all 3 in same hosp/ same job/ same coverage)

DD3- 2000 - Homebirth with LM 3300 ( 300disc for paying ahead). No reimbursement from same insurance as above 3 births)

DD4 - 2003 - Homebirth with RNM - New state - Not legal. Paid 1000 cash total no reimbursement from Aetna ( our new insurance)

DS3 - 2005 - Homebirth wih RNM - New state again. UHC for Insurance. Paid 3000 up front before birth. Reimbursed at 100% b/c no midwive within 15miles of my house. Otherwise would have been 80%.

DS4 - 2006 - Homebirth with RNM - Same as above. But 3400 up front. Hard to afford, but worth every penny.

Having kids costs money. They can pay me back when Im old

I am 5 months pregnant & I am having to do the same but I was just notified of the payments that are due each time I go into the drs office. My ded from my insurance co & then the 20% of there set fees. I had to do the same with ds. It is really crazy esp if the dr does not delevery you. But I understand but what I do not understand is that if it is not paid before I deliver then they will not touch me. Which I do not agree with. What happens if I go into preterm labor before it is paid for.

My "kids" are 29 and 26 years old. I had to pay my deductable plus my 20% before they were born. We just made payments every month. My husband made $2.50 - $5.00 an hour back then. Geeze, I don't know how we made it, but we did! We got NO help from anywhere or anyone. I was couponing back then, using cloth diapers, etc. Good luck!

I knew we have good insurance, but I didn't realize how good! I paid for confirmation of pregnancy (urine or blood test, plus office copay), then nothing else for a normal birth! Even my "elective" c-section with #3 was covered 100%. My #1 and #2 are twins, they had to stay in the hospital beyond my 72 hour window for vaginal birth and we did have to pay $100 admission copay for each of them, plus 80% of the circ charges and daily MD visits for the extra 4 days beyond the "normal" stay.

I wasn't a couponer until last year, but I guess it was in me all along, we used to joke with twins we hit the B1G1F jackpot!

With both of my girls there was no billing or paying until after. Both docs (diff hospitals so diff OBs) billed the insurance after the births (c-sections) and then eventually billed us. If we get pregnant again, this new doc (after the fiasco with the last hospital not even telling us what was going on with our DD until 5 or more hours after she was born, we aren't going back there) does the billing after everything is done too.

The docs I've had said they do it after because you just never know if someone will stay with a practice, or if you'll end up high risk and need a ton more appts, or if they can go really light and you have less appts. It's easier to bill it all in one shot and not to have to rebill.
