Kindergarten-how does it work in your area?

So I have been trying to figure out how I am going to manage next year when DS starts half time Kindergarten. I had thought that it was 5 days half days (it used to be that way in my district) but now discovered that the district that I am in has changed it to 2 full days one week then 2 full days with a 3rd late start day the next. In previous years you could pay a tuition to get your child in full time K but I don't think you can even do that now (which is fine since I could never afford the $350 a month anyways).

With this recent change it got me thinking if this is now the norm or if it varies greatly by district.

Kindergarten is a full day (7:45-2:45) five days a week in Alabama. I think we are one of the few states that actually has a fully funded kindergarten. Children are not required to go to Kindergarten, but most do.

kindergarten is full days here 8:00-2:00 5 days a week, 1st grade is the same, 2nd and up go 8:00-2:55 with early release on Wed at 2:00

Both my kids go to public school and its always been 5 full days, even Pre-K.
eta - school hours are 8:10 - 3:10.

Kindergarten here at our public school is 5 full day from 8:30 til 3:00 (same hours as 1st - 5th)

Our school is focusing more on classroom academics this year, even in the K level. Recess has been reduced from 30 minutes to 15, and the specials (PE, Science, Art and Music) have gone from 45 to 40 minutes.

Preschool just changed this year as well to be a half day 5 day program. 3 year olds go in the AM from 8:30 til 11:00 and 4 year olds go in the PM from 12:30 til 3:00. Before this year you could choose to put your child in anywhere from 1 day per week right up to 5 days a week, your choice. And they've lowered the rate. I was paying $75 a month for 3 1/2 days and now it's $60 a month for 5 days.

I have never heard of just a few days a week. Is this public school???

Our old district was 5 full days...which was fabulous. I thin where we are now, it might be 5 1/2 days...but your schedules sounds completely crazy.

Mine was 2 days one week 3 days the next we had blue and green kindergarten the green went monday friday and every other wed, the blue went tues, thurs and every other wed. I live in Wa state that was 3 years ago too....

It's been SUPER tough for me to let my "Baby" go, but DH said no to my Homeschooling:sad:
