Kindergarten-how does it work in your area?

Im in KY and it is 5 days a week 7:45- 2:50 Now with that being said when i started kindergarten back in 1980 this is how it was


from the start of school until christmas break
kids with last name that were
A-L went monday and tuesday

M-Z went wednesday thru friday

When we got back from christmas break and until the end of school
A-L went wednesday thru Friday and

M-Z went Monday thru tuesday


Now that was really confusing

Here in KS it's full day kindergarten- 8:45-3:45 and occasionally they have early release where they let the kids go at 3:00pm
The state does not pay for pre-k here and the local preschools are pretty expensive so no preschool for us here.

I've never even knew a half day kindy existed! When I was in kindergarten (18 years ago!) it was full day and it was required. I've moved to a different state since then, and it's still the same. I've never thought of anything else.

I voted other. Here in MI it's school of choice and each school varies. One has a half-day only program 5 days a week, while the others do all-day 5 days a week.

Starting next school year it will be all-day, 5 days a week.

I'm in MI too. We have 5 full days. Kindergarten isn't what it used to be. At the end of Kindergarten my daughter was reading short books about 5-15 words per page. Could count to 100. It's not just playing and coloring anymore.

In my area of Southeast Texas, our Kindergarten is from 7:40-3:00 5 days a week.

here they go mon - fri all day and they expect kids to already know the things they use to teach in kendergarden.
