awww. that made me tearful...DD is 9mos and DH sticks it in her mouth like an accessory when he dresses her...i think i may need to hide it from him! She likes it when she goes to sleep but then i find it out of her mouth after a mins of going to sleep. I guess it is better than falling asleep with a bottle which is what i let DS do but he did not have a binkie. Good Luck, I hope the complete disappearance works for u!!

All 3 of my kids were about 3 1/2 years old when they finally gave up their binkies by hiding them for the Easter Bunny to find outside. They were so excited the morning of Easter, they never minded the loss. They were only taking it at naps and bedtime at that point anyways or if they were sick.

I don't understand the hurry that we all have wanting our kids to grow up. I was in the car tonight listening to "Manic Monday" from the 80's and I used to sing this song to my firstborn when she was just starting to smile (a wee bitty baby). She will be 24 this November and now lives in Boston and I am in Missouri. I miss her terribly and talk to her alot on the phone and through text messages put it's just not the same. I was crying in the car thinking about how fast time has gone by and that 2 of 3 of my kids are adults (the other is 19 and in college renting a house in town with roommates). Thanks goodness by boy is only 8 and I will have him here for a few more years.

Maybe all the tears were melancholy or maybe my period is due! Oh, this pre-menopausal thing is a b**th!

I really like the put it in the bear at Build a bear idea. My son is 16 months and we are begining to realize that every picture he has it in his mouth. I want to wean him and let him only have it at nap and bedtime, but my son is one of the crabbiest toddlers I've ever seen, that iI dont know if I want to give it up, LOL.

My advice to new mothers is to never start that habit in the first place and then you won't have to worry about it. How about showing them their thumb or other finger(s) instead?

How about burying them in the "ground" or throwing them away and not being able to find them?

My DD2 will be 2 this month. She LOVES her binkie, I only let her have it at nap, bedtime, and if we are travelling long distances in the car. I hate the thoughts of having to break her of it, she is pretty attached.

My DD1 refused to take a binkie, so I don't have any prior experience with it at all. I do know it's not good for their teeth, that is really my only concern. I will be taking both my girls to the dentist, and will hear what he has to say about the whole thing. Otherwise, I would be happy just to let her grow out of it on her own.

My son was just over 2 when we realized he needed to be weaned from his paci. He was at the point that he was taking it out of his mouth to talk! I cut the tip off and left the paci lying on a table. He popped it in his mouth, quickly realized something was wrong...asked me and his dad to "fix it" which we said we couldn't do, he walked over to the trash can and threw it away and never looked back. I walked to another room and cried like a baby!!! I was not (and still ain't ) ready for him to grow up, but some things just have to happen. I'm not sure I would attempt both potty and paci at the same time, but it just might work. Heck, mine was 3.5 before he mastered the potty! We seriously thought he would start school in pull-ups!

A friend invented the binkie fairy. The kids put it under their pillow[after a few days of talking ] and in the morning a surprise is under the pillow instead of the binkie.

It is way easier to take away the pacifier, compared to cutting off the finger/thumb.

I didn't say anything about cutting off appendages....
I am just not a big fan of pacifiers in the mouths of over 3 year olds that is all. Sorry I offended you.
