Default Re: Breastfeed in Restaurants OK or not OK?

I bottle fed my first 2, I could not breast feed.

With my son, I nursed for 11 months. I never nursed in public, I just prefer not to. I would go to the minivan to nurse if need be.

When my son was 11 months we had to take an emergency trip out of state, and I nursed on the plane.. because it was the only thing that kept him happy while flying.

I dont mind if other women nurse in public, but only if covered. I have seen women bust it out and nurse, not even trying to cover themselves.. that bothers me, not for my sake but for theirs... its a modesty issue.

But again, I dont like to eat with a blanket over my head, and I know my son did not.. so its a catch 22 I guess.

I think that is a little extreme.

Why? Like I said personally I find the view of a mom bottle feeding as offensive as some see breastfeeding moms in public. Oh! and I hope they put away that bottle as soon as they are done feeding!

I think my husband said it best. "Why do people always try to go to the far extreme of the law? So it is ok to nurse in public, that's great. But, do they have to go and nurse in a restaurant full of teenage boys? Not, the modest nursers. But, the ones who wear a tube top and pull it all the way off almost to nurse. And don't put away the smoking gun when they are done. Almost like they are only nursing to "make a statement"."

Well at least he summed it up for me.

Do people use baby bottles for sexual pleasure, too?

I voted "Neither- I don't watch". I am a nursing mother and I will nurse ANYWHERE. HOwever, I personally believe in modesty so I use a nursing shawl. I also try to only nurse when I can sit down, 1) a baby is heavy to carry around and 2) I don't like the possiblity that someone might see my stretch marks. I would only be offended if a woman just flopped her breast out with no regard to anyone else. Just because you can get your breast out to feed your hungry child doesn't mean you should flop out your breast for all the world to see. If you wouldn't do it when you are not nursing, you probably shouldn't just because you are.

After my extensive experience in traveling, I hate to break the news to everyone...the USA seems to be the only place in the world who have major hangs up about breastfeeding.

Though I can't speak for parts of the Middle East some women were totally covered. I couldn't tell if they were breastfeeding, maybe their discreet.

I think breastfeeding is great and I plan to do it. However, I don't really know if I could handle breastfeeding in public. I think that growing up with the constant "breasts are sexual objects" attitude from movies/books/tv/the general public has caused me to kind of have an apprehensive feeling towards it.

I'm sure once I actually start having to do it, I will have a better viewpoint! X-D
