Default Re: Ok to call my WIC lady? What do I do?? Freaking out!

Just wanted to chime in here that I agree with the advice you have received on this thread. When DD was nursing, I found out through trial and error that the occasional horrible diaper rash she would get was caused by the lemonade or orange juice I was drinking. She has outgrown that now, but when she was little, she had a lot of reactions to citrus. So if he has known sensitivities, be sure to evaluate what you are eating. And it can't be said enough to drink a LOT of water--it has been several years since I was breastfeeding DD, but I remember the growth spurts and how it seemed that she was hungry all the time. I was exhausted, and basically felt like a dairy cow! But it does get better--before you supplement, I would give yourself a goal. Tell yourself you can do this for another 3 or 4 days, then re-evaluate. As long as he has wet diapers, he is likely doing just fine. Good luck!

My DD is almost 5 mths now. When she was about 3 mths. old she was nursing and NOTHING came out, luckily I had some pumped milk in the fridge that she could take. But after that I cried and cried, someone asked if I was drinking enough water, and after I thought about I was not drinking that much because I was just so busy. I immediately started to drink at least a glass of water per hour and by the next day my milk had came back. So it's very very important to drink plenty. Good Luck!!

My dd is also 5 months old and sometimes acts the same way, nursing for seconds. I think it's an age thing. Just keep at it. If you don't like oatmeal, any form of oats works to increase milk production. Oatmeal cookies--- yummmmm!

I totally agree that pumping is not an indicator of supply. I've never been able to pump much at a time. Just relax and remember to drink plenty of water. Send dh out for some oatmeal cookies. (I just bought some that are chewy with chocolate chips.)

Hope it will get better for you!

Call your WIC lady!! That's why she gave you her cell #. She will completely understands why you would be calling & she would want you to call rather than drive yourself insane.

While the others have given you great advice, I am from the other side of the tracks with breastfeeding issues.

I'll spare you my long details with my milk supply issues - but after my DD lost 2.5lbs in 2 days!!! the OB, pediatrician & 4 Lactation Consultants all put me through a battery of tests and nursing pump outflow logs...take this take that pump this pump that...

I was finally diagnosed with Low Milk Supply. I struggled severely emotionally because all of the people kept telling me there would not be an issue with my milk, that my daughter would demand & my body would produce. Drink water, take fenugreek, drink this, eat that. The more you pump the more you produce - maybe for some people, but it didn't work for me and, like I mentioned above, I was working with 4 LCs, the OB, the pedi, the LLL and MOBI (mothers overcoming breastfeeding issues).

None of it worked. I have a medical condition & no amount of extra pumping, eating, drinking or taking this that or the other worked (Not even the prescription items).

The La Leche League was of no help and actually made me feel worse than I already did. They did not want to even try to understand that it was something medical in nature - it must've been something I was doing or wasn't doing. I am definately not a fan any longer of the LLL. I'm sure they are great to women who are having bf issues, but they need to consider that sometimes it is a medical problem. MOBI helped me a great deal (emotionally).

Good luck!!

I would definitely call the wic lady and in the mean time check out kellymom :: Breastfeeding and Parenting and call your local chapter of the la leche league. Also make sure you are getting enough fluids for yourself. Everyone has given great advice. I hope things improve for you. Try not to stress to much over it because that can also affect your supply.
