Default How do you treat baby bottles, nipples, etc before first use?

Hi all, I need your help again on this one :)

I got a Playtex Newborn gift set bottle so that's what I'll use as a start and try to see if my baby will like it before buying more or buying another brand.

How do you treat your baby bottles, nipples, etc before first use?

I read the instruction that comes with the box and it only said to boil the nipples and the vents for 5 minutes before first use, it did not said anything about the bottles.

Should I boil the bottles too for 5 minutes? Is it safe to boil the plastic bottles (they're the BPA Free ones but still plastic...)?

Or should I just put the bottles in the dishwasher or should I hand-wash them?
Oh..and I don't have the electric or microwave sterilizer..I don't plan to buy it unless it'll be recommended by the doctor.

Please help...still the clueless here...lol...

Thanks so much!!

You should be fine to just run them through your dishwasher. DO NOT do what my dh did one day while I was at work. He put a pile of nipples, rings, plastic bottles in a big pot and boiled them. Too bad he forgot they were on the stove. Even the pot had to be thrown away (and that was my favorite spaghetti pot).

Just follow the directions and you should be fine.

If you have a burning desire for more work, go ahead and sterilize them in the dishwasher.

LOL....

Actually the instruction doesn't say anything about what to do with the bottles before first use...that's why I'm confused whether I need to boil the bottles or not :)

The directions are exactly what you should do. After the first first boiling of the nipples you never have to do it agian. You can just run them in the dishwasher if they are dishwasher safe to sterilize them. Latex nipples cant be put in the dishwasher just so ya now. As for the bottles are these playtex bottles the drop ins or are they regular. If they are regular like the bottle holds the milk just run them through the dishwasher. If they are the venti airs like it sounds I hated though bottles. I did how ever love love love the playtex drop ins because when my son was old enough to hold his bottled and he didn't know how to tip them up to get the milk I could just squeeze the air out to the top and he could suck the milk out with no gas.

I don't have a working dishwasher so hand washed all the bottles and nipples and boiled them before first use. I used the Dr. Brown's BPA free bottles and I believe they recommended boiling the nipples for 3 minutes but I also boiled the bottles too. I think following the instructions should be good enough. I boiled the bottles because the breastpump that I bought recommended boiling all the parts including the bottles that came with the pump that were BPA free so I thought if I'm boiling those bottles I may as well boil the Dr. Brown ones too.
