Default Do you need your husbands during your hospital stay?

Just curious if anyone else demands their husbands in the hospital after birth for the first night (or more)?

I don't know how others do it. I can't stand up/sit down or pick up the baby the first night by myself. (All natural births so far. Granted my first kid was with forceps, this is way worse needed him for like 4-5 days.)

I ask only because my MIL asked if she was staying at our house or in a hotel while I was in the hospital. She is only here to help with the kids while my hubby is away. Somehow she figured he was staying the night in our house to help with the other kids. We need somebody here at night and my parents will be gone at a conference the day I'm induced. They helped watch with 2-4. Nuts.

I'm supposed to be induced May 7th. I plan on being out by May 8th (Friday), like I did with births 2 and 3 (really hate hospitals).

If I get home at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. She could leave at 1:01 as far as I'm concerned. (Nothing personal, I've done the same with my parents.) I like to come home and relax and not worry about staying in my PJ's all day long. But, alas my hubby refuses to push her out that quick. He says 1:02 is better. But, she isn't planning on leaving. That is a whole different story. Meant for HUTC I'm sure.

well it would have been nice but I didn't complain.

then again I was in pretty good shape. I would have definitely preferred him to have been there, so I could have gotten a little sleep and been able to keep her in the room with me instead of sending her to the nursery when I got to the point of passing out, though.

I was lucky he was there for the delivery. LOL

I guess I didn't NEED him there, but he stayed in the hospital at least the first night for both kids. I had c/sections. He was a lot more immediate help than the nurses could be.

With the second baby, he stayed one night and then spent the other 3 at home with DS.

My hubby was there with all three births and stayed even afterwards, in the hospital with me. With our last one I was able to request another night in the hospital because I really needed my rest and I knew I would not get it at home (I had a 2 and 3 year old at home) the last night he went home to prepare our other two what was happening the next day. That night was the worst sleep I have ever had. Oh wait, no the worst sleep was the second child when DH stayed. That day I was getting my IV and my DH passed out cracked his head open and was rushed to the ER while I was giving birth. He made it back in time for the birth with 3 shiny staples in his head. Anyways, that night I was up all night taking care of my new baby boy and my BIG baby boy.(I had to make sure he didn't bump his heap on the wall or anything over night) I wished he had gone home. By the way he is great with the birth but its the needles that put him to sleep.

I had to laugh at the "demand" part of the question! I hardly ever "demand" anything from my DH, but when I do, he definitely knows to listen. That is an advantage of it being a rare occurence.

My DH stayed both nights with our last baby but we are lucky to have my mother in town to take care of our other kids. I had a c-section so we could plan it. I wanted my DH there with me, but also I needed him to lift the baby, etc. It is wonderful to be able to bond together early on with your little one.

I told DH to go home after the birth of my daughter. I wanted him home with our son. I was able to do pretty much everything myself after both births. I think sometimes my DH wishes I wasnt so determined and independent. He probably likes to feel more needed at times

Well, I've never given birth, but I've already asked DH if he will stay with me. I don't want to be in the hospital any longer than necessary, but just in case, I don't know if I could stay without him there, hospitals freak me out so bad. The last time I was hospitalized, he stayed with me all night (for another medical issue), and my birthing center provides a pull-out sofa in the postpartum rooms for spouses to stay overnight.

I gave birth during a blizzard. I was kept an extra day because of the storm even though I didn't need to stay. We also live 5 mins from the hospital, but they still wouldn't let me go and I appreciated the rest. My sister was like huh? why isn't he there he needs to stay the night there and spend time with the baby. I said I really appreciated the time I had alone with her.

He helped in making the baby, I can't imagine him NOT being there to when the baby is born and all night long. One doesn't really move after a csec so diapers etc is hard to do, regardless I would expect him there anyway.

I give birth AND sleep in an uncomfortable bed and getting woken up every hour while he's at home??? heeeeeeeeeeeeeeccccckkkkk no!! lol

I would never ask, it's a given. I will have a csection again, so hopefully he'll have about 2 weeks to take off also once the baby is born so we can all get adjusted at home as a family.
