YES! I HATE HATE HATE hospitals - so much so that for this one due in September I'm not going! (midwife, homebirth - whole other topic) But with the first 3 I absolutely needed him ds 1 was emergency C-section and on the 2nd day he left to check on things at work and didn't come back until over 4 hours later - I was frantic! Nurses wouldn't respond to the button and I couldn't get out of bed (couldn't walk yet - very difficult delivery) to reach the baby who wouldn't stop crying! Long story but it was awful - I needed him there. Next 2 were natural but still - I needed him.

There was NO way out of it!
Poor man didn't even get a bed or pull out thingie. We only stayed one night because I needed REAL food and a SOFT bed. He did a great job staying out of my way and doing what I told him. WOW, what a great man I have. I don't know any other who would put up with my crap.

Well... umm.. things were.. INTERESTING during my births, so I'd have to say yes. With my ex-husband, I didn't let him in at ALL during the entire time I was in labor, and while having my oldest.. I broke his jaw. ;x He was holding a leg, and erm.. my foot 'slipped.' The guy deserved it ( No really. He did. )

But with my wife, absolutely she would be there with me. I can't imagine NOT having her there! :smile77:

I was in the hospital for 3 days, I delivered at 12:13am. My boyfriend went home after the delivery to pick up our car (his sister drove us to the hospital). He was gone 1 hour, then he never left after that. He was great. We got 1 of the 2 queen beds at the hospital. So we slept together, that was even easier than him sleeping on a cot, etc. So he was right there to help the baby and I. He would be at my side in a second to help me to the bathroom, change our baby's diaper, get me a snack, etc. He was SOOOO helpful!! We ate food from the cafeteria, there was a Subway (sub sandwiches) in the hospital also, we ordered pizza from Davanni's (a really good pizza place) across the street, and the nurse's would bring us ice cream and other goodies.

With DS1 I don't think it occured to DH to not be in the hospital. He did go home and shower/change, eat some leftovers, and check the mail, but then he was back.

I had a homebirth with DS2 and DH took great care of me and fixed me awesome food and brought it to me on a tray with fresh flowers. DH was in charge of taking care of me and my folks were in charge of taking care of DS1, and I was in charge of taking care of DS2 (ok mostly just snuggling and nursing, others helped with diapers).

Honestly, I think I needed the most help both times at about 5 days postpartum. By then I was tired and my hormones were acting up and I was starting to wonder why I wasn't feeling better.

With our first child my DH stayed the whole time. We had the suite with the queen bed and it was great. I was up and moving just fine but had to stay 2 days. ( I didn't mind it was like a hotel) W/ #2 I ended up w/ a c-section and hubby didn't stay at all. He went home w/ DS #1 and I was more than happy to let the nurses help out when I needed it. (I let them take care of him the first 4 days of his life bringing him to me for feedings and during the day but they kept him at night so I could sleep) I figure I will get to spend the next 18 yrs w/ him so they can take the first few

With DD#1 my dad stayed with me....I have a sweet sweet dad : ), Glad he was there b/c I was just so nervous a/b handling the baby. With DD #2 my DH stayed with me the whole time. I don't know what I would have done without him. I had a spinal headache from the epidural (worst pain of my life...worst than labor!!!) and the only time I moved was to go to the bathroom. He had to feed me and everything b/c it hurts so bad to move. Oh, and he was a real trooper he didn't have a bed just a chair :smile77:

Well, I had a c-section and sayed 3 nights in the hospital. My husband was there the first night but he had to work, but I was fine. I actually enjoyed sitting in the hospital being pampered and cared for by the nurses. If you have a problem that is what the nurses are there for, so if your husband isn't there for you it will still be okay.
