I didn't make DH do anything but he willingly stayed in the hospital with me for both DS's until I was released. He did go home during the day for an hour or so but only when my DM was there to stay with me. My MIL watched my oldest when DS#2 was born. But even then she brought him to the hospital and left him with us so we could have some family time then came back later and picked him up the one full day we were there. It was soo cute watching DH & DS take a nap on the couch together in the hospital while DS#2 slept in the basinett (but then I fell asleep too).

A little off topic but one thing I will never forget about my hospital stay for DS#2 was when DS#1 threw up on the floor in my room because he was dehidrated from going to watch his cousin play soccer before comming to the hospital :shrug7:. And the nurses were sooooo nice about it. :smile77:

He tried to stay the first night when our daughter was born; but the pull-out chair was so uncomfortable that he asked if I minded if he went home (I didn't mind). She was born at almost 11 pm, so by the time we were getting ready to go to sleep, it was well after midnight. I was still in the L&D room due to pre-eclampsia, so there was no bed or lounger. He did stay the 2nd night with us in the post-partum room. I was in a double room that had no other patient in it, so he slept in the other bed.

With our 2nd and 3rd babies, he went home for the nights to be with our other children. I preferred it that way anyhow - I'm the type that likes to suffer in silence, LOL. I felt so yucky those first few nights that I just needed to be alone.

IF my hubbys reading this I NEED YOU, I NEED YOU! Who else well sneek whoopers into me during labor while the nurses are starving me to death. I mean really no food. My hubby came to my rescue even with a broken head. by that time they were on to him but he was still able to give me some nice salty frys, best I have ever had.

He stayed with me after my first baby. But that was a rough night for us because I had gone through a really tough delivery and then DS landed in the NICU, so DH and I were both scared.

With DS's #2 and #3, DH needed to go to work since it was during the slow months for us and every minute of work counted! I would've felt bad for him making him sleep in our room when he had to get up to work the next day. They don't provide a bed for Daddys at our hospital: just a very uncomfortable recliner, so he wouldn't have gotten any sleep.

Plus, I liked knowing that the boys were with their daddy and not sleeping in an unfamiliar house without him. It's rough enough on toddlers when mommy isn't there. My three kids are stair steps: each 15 mos. apart from each other.

NO!! Sorry, but that is the only time I got to be selfish! and have someone else (the nurses) take care of me! I have had 3 C-sections and wanted those three days to rest and recover, not have my hubby there, with nothing to do,trying to talk to me, when all I want to do is sleep, or rest, or take care of the baby. I also want that special alone time to bond with my new baby. And the first few nights I was awake most of the nights anyway, that way I didnt have to worry about being quiet. So no, I did not want my husband with me in the hospital.

Other~ Dh stayed every night when we had our first. We stayed 3 nights and DS stayed 5 nights in the NICU

When I had DD the first night he went home and took care of our son and my mom stayed with me. The second night my mom stayed with DS and Dh stayed with me. DD was in the NICU for 3 nights. Then at home under bili lights for another 5 days.

I voted No. I think DH stayed every night for our first child but he didn't really need to! I have c-sections so that was 3 nights in an uncomfy cot for him! For our second child we had him stay the night the first night but again he was pretty useless as he sleeps so hard and gets so disoriented the nurse just came in with the baby when it was feeding time. (I haven't roomed in with either child, just have the nurses come in and wake me when it's time to feed.) But with our first I'm not sure DH would have gone home and slept if I told him to!

And I agree it is soooo nice to be in the hospital! With my 2nd it was like a vacation sitting in bed watching TV, having food brought to me and holding my new sleeping baby! Amazing!!!!

I had to have help for a long time after my sons birth. I was in labor for a long time with my induction and then ended up having an emergency c-section. I lost alot of blood and become anemic/pallor. I felt so bad I had a hallucination the night I got home. My mom had to leave after a few days after the birth so I had no help and it was horrible getting up and down. Next time she will be coming after the baby is born not weeks before. Because c-sections HURT!!.

With our first he did stay the night with me but I feel it was pointless. Neither one of use could sleep with all the beeping noise and he could not get comfortable at all.
With our second I sent him home for numerous reasons, our son and if I needed help the nurses were there to help.

My first was all natural and my second was a c-section. I did have problems with my second duing the night to where she cried and stupid me tried to pick her up and poped my stitches open. But the nurses were there w/i seconds.

No, he didn't stay the night with either child overnight in the hospital. He also did not stay when I had a hysterectomy. Demand?? LOL I found that funny, demand my husband?? He is my husband, not a child. Just my .02
