I've had 2 kids - both C sections. One emergency, one planned
Maybe its different in different parts of the country - but DH never stayed overnite after I had either baby - and this is the first I ever heard of anyone's DH staying. :shrug7:

Well, My ex husband never stayed in the hospital when I had my first 2 children. Working was more important. (Probably why we aren't still married.) Anyway, my current DH stayed the first night after my last son was born so that the baby didn't have to go to the nursery, and DH snored right through him crying and never woke up- I did. So, it depends on how hard of a sleeper your dh is. :) LOL

Hmmmm...30 years ago, when I had my kids, I don't think this was an option. He was there for the birth, but they kicked all of the dads out at 11pm (unless, of course, that's when you were delivering.

I would never ask, it's a given. I will have a csection again, so hopefully he'll have about 2 weeks to take off also once the baby is born so we can all get adjusted at home as a family.
Exactly what I was going to say!

Why would I need him there? I'm at the hospital already, if something becomes a need I think they have it covered. LOL
I do recall waking up the 2nd night with our 3rd and seeing him sleep in the floor, I started 'yelling' at him quietly as to what he was doing? Ummm, bed at home, remember? LOL

Thumbs Up Re: Do you need your husbands during your hospital stay?

I didn't have my husband stay with me at the hospital on my 2 children. I had a C-Section on both of their births. I needed him when I got home! I'm short too, so it's even harder for me to get off the bed in the middle of the night or to feed the baby. You should have the nurses help you while in the hospital, that's what they are getting paid for. Let him stay home, he's going to need his rest too because once he returns to work, he won't rest as much either.

My husband didn't the night the last time when I had the twins. He won't stay this time either. I'm not sure why I need him there.

Dh stayed with me after both births. With DS, there wasn't anyone waiting at home for him and we both appreciated the extra help from the nurses in instruction since DS was our first.

He was crowd control mostly for DD because I wasn't allowed to have many visitors at a time due to my crazy high blood pressure the week before delivery. DS stayed with my parents, and DH stayed with DD and me except for when he ran home to shower and when he went out to get some food. I didn't really "need" him, but it was nice that he was there.

First baby he stayed. The next two, I wanted him at home with the boys even though my aunt was there. I don't have any problems getting up and around though. I actually like the one on one time with the new baby. Maybe I am weird!

Default Re: Do you need your husbands during your hospital stay?

2 planned c-sections and he stayed overnight with me every night that I was in the hospital for both babies.

Baby#1 was born on a Tuesday, and we all went home on Saturday afternoon- we had to stay an extra day due to ds not eating very well and his jaundice issues.

Baby#2 was born on a Friday and we went home Monday. Our hospital has family suite rooms and ds#1 (then 22 months old) actually stayed with us overnight too, as my planned babysitter (SIL) had knee surgery just a few days prior and wasn't up to caring for a toddler. We did have people watching him during the day, so he wasn't stuck non-stop in the hospital. I wanted DH there with me (so ds#1 was a package deal) because I knew I wouldn't be in good enough shape to be getting up and out of bed to take care of the baby for diaper changes and to get him for feedings, etc. And because of the complications that I had during the c-section, I definitely needed him to help me with the baby!
