QUESTION WIC?

Ok, I didn't know where to post this so here it goes...my cousin lives in MA and she told me that WIC is replacing the juice with rice and bread. I Have not heard this from my WIC office so I don't know if any of you have or if maybe this is just in MA. If WIC does that...it's a great idea since juice doesn't have any nutrional value in my opinion! And hopefully it would be wheat bread since that's what my lo eats...she has never had white bread!

I did hea that too. I am not sure if it's the juice they are replacing but it could be. I did hear from one of the representatives that the changes are coming :)

I haven't heard anything about any changes. I just went in for a pick up a few weeks ago and no one said anything about it, but that would be a great change IMO...

I'm in NY and they recently made changes to our WIC program.

They cut back the eggs from 2 1/2 dozen per month to 1 dozen month
They changed the juice package from 64-oz to 48 oz or 11.5 frozen or shelf stable
We get $8 fresh/frozen/canned veggie/fruit voucher
They added whole grain bread, but only for those who EBF.

I think thats all the changes...

Ours cut back on eggs, cheese, and juice but no word on bread or friuts and veggies. If they change it to fruits and veggies I'll be glad my daughter is like the only child I know who will only eats nothing but turkey meat, rice, fruits, and veggie. My brother offered her a cookie and she said no give me the banana.

It depends on the state, what is happening that due to differing ethnic background and changes in the *food pyramid* there will be a complete overhaul of the food choices available through WIC.

Here in WA some of the changes are-no more juice for infants over 6 months old, ww tortillas and ww bread will be offered, fresh veggies(some organic-depends on state), tofu, varieties of baby food, possibly soy milk in some states.

WA already gives farmer's markets vouchers in the summer, all of this info is available on WA's WIC site. I'd check you individual state to see what new items are being added and those that are being taken away. Honestly for meI'm fine with lowering the juice, we just don't drink that much of it. We are going through less milk now that DD is a bit older, she isn't drinking as much milk. Milk freezes super well though and I freeze it all the time.

Check your state's website for the info, it is available there.

I am curious to see what changes OH is making. I EBF and get 7 juices, 5 gallons of milk, 3 lbs of cheese, I think 4 dozen eggs...and all the other stuff, but honestly, we do go through most of that. The juice is excessive, but we do go through the 13 gallons of milk/ month in our family. Seems crazy, but somehow...

I will love the bread and fresh veggie changes. Hopefully we will be included in that. I go to my next appt 5/12...will see!
