I will love the bread and fresh veggie changes. Hopefully we will be included in that. I go to my next appt 5/12...will see!
Most states won't have all the changes until Oct. 1, 2009. I do know that they are training the store cashiers about it because at SW yesterday they wouldn't let me get pb that I used to get. So they are starting to implement the changes. On WA's WIC site it has a calendar for the changes.

NY changed effective 1/1/09

Juice and eggs were cut way back... now we get a 16oz pack of brown rice (not sold in that size ANYWHERE so you can't get it...only 14 or 15 oz) or a 16 oz package of Thomas's WW square bagel bread..or a type of bred they don't sell here either.

Fresh, frozen or canned fruits or veg upped to $6 from $5 for winter months...once farmers markets open you get $24 for the summer (May-Oct) which doesn't get you much cuz the farmers that take them up their prices so high you can't afford anything

Babies now get baby food up to 1 year old.

Lots of changes...most still have MAJOR kinks in them... after 4 months I still have trouble getting every item on my check, as most stores don't carry the stuff yet...

This is what I found on my WIC site:

Things to Know About the New WIC Food Packages

The Florida Department of Health and all other state WIC agencies must implement the new food packages by October 1, 2009.

New WIC foods
Fruits and vegetables
Whole grain breads and cereals
Baby foods for infants 6 months and older that include fruits and vegetables for all infants and meat for exclusively breastfed infants

New alternatives (at State agency option) to appeal to culturally diverse populations
Soy beverage and tofu as a substitute for milk
Brown rice, soft corn or whole wheat tortillas, oatmeal, barley, or bulgur as a substitute for whole wheat bread
Canned beans as a substitute for dried beans
Canned salmon, sardines, and mackerel as a substitute for canned light tuna

New quantities of the current WIC foods
Reduced quantities of milk, eggs, juice, and cheese for women and children
Additional amounts of beans or peanut butter for women
No juice for infants
Reduced quantities of infant formula for partially breastfed infants
Variable quantities of formula for non-breastfed infants based on the age of the infant

New requirements
Reduced fat, low fat, or fat free milk for women and children 2 years of age and older
Additional WIC foods for children over 1 year of age receiving a special formula with a medical request
