Default Re: Breastfeeding an infant with an active toddler?

I had a chair (first just an old cushioned chair then a rocker) in my DS#1 room. We also had a twin mattress on the floor in his room for guests. I would put the baby gate up and go in there to nurse DS #2 (they are 16 months apart.) Movies, books and his high chair helped too. I could sometime talk him into getting in the pack and play if I had a "new" toy for him to play with.

Default Re: Breastfeeding an infant with an active toddler?

I have a 5 year old that is in school during the day and a 2.5 year old and a 10 month old. I was not able to nurse my oldest two due to some medical issues (me not them). But I made sure that I did it this time with my youngest. During those first I would say 6 weeks or so when you are getting your milk supply in and the baby is really learning what he is doing (and I was trying to just relax some) It was really hard with a under 2 running around like a monkey tearing things up. I finally just made sure everything was safe and let him do it until I was done nursing and cleaned up after him when I was done. He was never one to sit and watch tv ( is starting to now though) and was too "busy" to sit for me to read for him:/ All the ideas about reading, tv are great though if they will sit for that:) I also read of others locking the toddler and themselves in the toddler's room for "play time" which would work too. Good luck it can be done though.
