 Re: Godparents
i have a godmother who i stay in contact with. i've always understood a godparent to be as mrspinecone defined. so, more important to me & dh is to have legal guardians defined in our wills as to whom gets custody of our children should the unthinkable happen. we just recently asked a couple if they would do that for us, and they have accepted, so that is a wonderful feeling of relief.
we chose them according to their parenting style, stability in jobs, location, non-smokers, and how their own children act. most importantly, how they and their children relate to our children. family wasn't a requirement, but that they are is all the better!
it was weird to analyze people in this way, but we realized we had better plans & future goals for our money than we did our children, and how twisted that was. you can never be too prepared, and make the decision while it's yours to make!
