What's the going rate from the Tooth Fairy?

We do $1 per tooth, we have twins so this adds up.

Our tooth fairy leaves $1-$2. Once when DD lost a tooth later at night and the toothfairy didn't have any money in her wallet and wasn't about to go out and buy something in order to get a $1 bill, the toothfairy left a DVD that had been stashed away.

My friend told me that he left his DD $20 for her first tooth. I asked if he left the going rate or more. He said the reason they did that was b/c they had no more smaller bills in the house (not prepared!!). But he did explain to her that this was just a special first tooth gift while all subsequent teeth would be more like $1 or less. He has a really good little girl so he said that she understood.

I actually hid a couple of bucks the other day, so that the tooth fairy wouldn't have to make a late night emergency trip to the ATM and the store!! lol

Thanks for all the replies everyone!!! My research is telling me that our neighborhood tooth fairy offers $2 for tooth #1 and $1 for each one after.

My sons are in bed and DS#1 just hollered down the hallway to me and his dad

'can you guys go to bed right now, so the tooth fairy can come?'

At our house the tooth fairy left $5 for the first... and then leaves $1 gold coins for each add'l.... I believe she got 20 at the bank all at once and has them hidden away!!!

I'm not doing the tooth fairy either. My eldest thinks she's just a character on Wizards of Waverly Place .
It's way too over the top here, most parents give DVDs, video games, etc. She'll still get something, just something from mom and dad. Eldest has had her front teeth fractured in her gums for almost 2 years, I have to give her some sort of prize for keeping them in so long!
