So where do you think they'll get more hormones? drinking milk directly from the animals that are feed those hormones or from drinking milk from mommy who eats those things and who's body will filter out a lot of it? drinking formula just bring you closer to the source of those hormones.

Yeah, she was probable feeling guilty about not bfing her kids. Formula (the alternative to not BFing a baby) is filled with growth hormones. hardly the best alternative to avoiding the problem.

This just makes me so angry. Not the PP, but the "study" or whatever. I'm currently reading "The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers" & I'm finding it absolutely amazing. I bought it at a thrift store for .20 & I'm so glad I did! I never knew all the politics behind the formula companies...it's insane.

If anyone wants to check their library for it, it's written by Jack Newman & Teresa Pittman.

I breast fed my DD until she decided to stop on her own at 13 months. I would have continued though. It was the BEST thing I could have done for her as well as myself. The bonding is incredible, the weight loss on my part was cool. She is almost 4 now and is so healthy, eats EVERYTHING put in front of her. In my opinion formula is poison, full of crap and hormones... Breastfeeding is awesome!

Yes if you're eating foods with hormones, they will cross, but that doesn't out weigh the benefits. My husband and I feel very strong against the hormones in foods, and we can't afford to go organic. We have cut down though, most Kraft cheeses and many of the regular milk in the grocery store comes from cows that haven't been fed hormones. It will say it right on the label. Then when there's a good sale on the organic meet we'll pick it up, but at least it's decreased with the dairy we eat.

Wait....let me get this right. She is telling you that because of the hormones/chemicals you ingest from eating cows and drinking milk your breastmilk is unsafe. At the same time cow milk from those same contaminated cows is the answer. And she really believes this?

I don't think she thought that part through. PLUS, she has no kids of her own so I know she has no idea what she's talking about, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought she was nuts to imply that breastfeeding is bad.

Default Re: Breastfeeding Harmful b/c of Food Hormones?

I'm trying to figure out the four months number. What an odd amount. So, is that when the baby will have it's fill of bad stuff?
My eldest weaned at 31 months and her sister is at once a day at 27 months; it is still good for her to get and they are both healthy and happy and smart.
Heck, if my body can filter all of the Zoloft out (see studies from Case Western Reserve University); I'm sure it can filter out a lot of bad things.
Breastfeeding isn't best, it is normal and right. It is the first choice, followed by exclusive pumped milk from the mother, pumped milk from a donor, then formula.
These companies are evil and undermine many breastfeeding relationships. My grandma pointed out an increase in the breast cancer rate and related it to such a low amount of women breastfeeding (and this was back in the 90's). Until breastfeeding is seen as the norm or par, and everything else as sub-par, more and more babies will be exposed to toxic chemicals (see the latest with jet fuel?) and and these companies will just keep getting richer and richer off of it.
Sorry, I am just so passionate. My grandma kept getting told by her doctors that she couldn't be giving her kids enough milk to survive because she didn't do formula. I believe they have been undermining women for way too long. I know of too many moms even today that are harped on by their docs and their babies are doing great! Only bugged because they breastfeed. What a great way to advance and further womens self esteem and rights; tell them their body can't possibly support a child, urgh.

I must have worded my resopnse wrong, b/c it seems like people got the wrong idea. breastfeeding is still best, if your able to do it. realize that whether you breastfeed or formula feed your unless you eat foods that are completely homone and pesticide free your child is going to get chemicals in there system.
What I was saying is that there are regular foods out there if you look that are made hormone free. I've found that I'm able to buy some dairy (Publix milk and some Kraft cheeses) made from cows that aren't given hormones and aren't concidered organic (which you'll pay more for). I haven't found this to be the case with meet. If you want hormone free you'll have to pay more for the organic or buy from the Amish. I guess I figure it's better to have less hormones that I'm ingesting and passing on to my child. I can't afford to more expensive meet, so I do my best since we eat alot of dairy. Look at the packaging.
PS. no my child isn't here yet, but think about how much research and how many questions you ask when you're pregnant.
