Default Glucose Screening...Issues

Need ideas on what to eat.

This is my 5th baby so I should be able to answer this myself.

But, lately I can't hold down sugar, period, end of story. I (excuse tmi) throw it up and get really tired, almost pass out like.

I'm to drink it 1 hour before my appointment. The appointment is at 9:30 in the morning next Wednesday. Which means I'll be chugging the stuff while taking the kids to school.

It says eat normally. Here is what my other test ended up being.

DS (#1)I had Peanut Butter Toast (8:00) test was at 10:30 - Pass
DD (#2)I had Peanut Butter Toast (7:30) test was 9:00 - Fail (passed 3 hour)
DS (#3)I had Cocoa Pebbles (8:00) test 10:00 - Pass
DD (#4)I had Hamburger (no bun) and water (11:00) test 1:00 - Fail (pass 3 hour)
Unknown Gender (#5) - The test is 9:30.

Guess we'll know the gender, depending on if I pass or fail. Nuts, really didn't want to know till the end.

I don't know about you guys and pregnancy. But, I HAVE to eat breakfast. I can't skip that meal. The others I could probably get away with, don't like heartburn that much anyhow.

I don't have time to make any high protein meals breakfasts in the morning. And cereal doesn't hold me over (even the high fiber).

Any ideas?

I don't want to "mess up" the test by throwing up. But, even having Peanut Butter Toast in the morning isn't enough to keep sugar down. 1 Hershey kiss is enough to make me sick.

And no I can't switch times. Tried.

Uh, you do know that Peanut Butter has a fair amount of sugar in it right? Ingredient #1, peanuts. Ingredient #2, sugar. I recommend an egg and bacon.

I would try plain toast and an egg (you can hard boil them the night before). I guess plain toast has carbs in it. As the PP stated, Bacon wouldn't be bad although it is kinda unhealthy.

When I had mine last year, I stupidly had some fruit juice before my 1 hour test. Guess what - of course, I failed it. I didn't know... they said there were no restrictions to eating right before. Dumb me.

There are people that think the glucose screen has more risks than benifits and skip it

If you are doing the urine check at each appointment it's unlikely that you'd have GD and you and your dr/midwife wouldn't figure it out.

Or you could just test yourself using any of the gazillion monitors free monitors out there. I have a friend whose had two pregnancies with GD and she found out both times by testing herself (once with her mom's monitor the other time she just checked it periodically herself)

I never was much of a breakfast eater, but I do remember waking up starved when pregnant. A protein shake worked for me. Then mid morning I had a banana and string cheese.

I had eggs and a glass of milk and I still failed it. I passed the 3hour one later. My doctor fortunately uses a Milky Way bar instead of glucose drink (yuck). However, I also got sick from sugar, I felt weird the whole time.
Saturated fats and protein will slow down the absorption of sugars. So bacon is not a bad idea if it's sugar free. Or a cheese omlette.

Is this true? Will they be able to catch it just by screening my urine?

I did a glucose screening at my first prenatal visit BUT, after I drank that crap and they drew 80 things of blood, they forgot to run that test!! Isn't that nuts?? I'm supposed to go back and do it again, but I don't want to, lol. I HAVE, however, been getting urine screenings at every appointment to check for protein and sugar.

I have had GD with my last two pregnancies and the perfect breakfast for you (if you can keep it down ) is 1 slice of toast with butter, 2 slices of bacon, and 1 egg. No juice or milk in the morning. You can also throw some cheese on your egg too. Hope that helps.
