Default Pregnancy Weight Gain

I'm about 23 weeks now, and have gained 13 lbs so far. I'm concerned this is too much too soon. My doctor said he wants me to gain 15 lbs TOTAL! I told him I was worried about gaining too much and he just said well "you're aware of it...so..." So what? I can't diet while I'm pregnant, and I'm not eating like crazy - not depriving myself if I want something but not eating much more than before I was pregnant. So what do I do? When it gets nicer out I can go walking, but I'm not going to start doing step aerobics or anything at 5.5 months pregnant lol.

Any thoughts?

Why does he only want you to gain 15??? I thought 30-35 was a normal weight gain in pregnancies.

I'm not much help, I've lost 10 and I'm 11 weeks so far. Only b/c I've been worshipping the thrown that is normally sat upon for 11 weeks.

With my 1st, I didn't gain until 25+ weeks. What types of foods do you eat? Do you snack more on fruits/veggies and good for you snacks or snack on cobbler and cookies and brownies? Heeheee Brownies are sounding good right now!!

I've been eating a variety - some days I want veggies and fruit - apples, peanut butter, other days sweets like cookies and yes brownies lol. But 1 Little debbie brownie a day, not a whole box or anything lol

Personally, unless it's a health risk--- I say eat and be a happy pregnant person and worry about losing it after the baby

Sometimes it's not what your eating either. Sometimes you might just need a little exercise, even a little light walking would be good. (Park as far as you can from the store entrance, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.). Just do the best you can and be happy with yourself.

My midwife's attitude was, as long as your eating mostly healthy things, don't be stuck on what the scale says. I gained 55 pounds because I was simply hungry ALL THE TIME! I'm not sure how long it took to come off, but my son is 14 months old now and I just stepped on the scale and I'm actually below my pre-pregnancy weight. She also wanted me to walk 2 miles a day, which didn't always happen, but she did remind me that pregnant women aren't as fragile as they are often portrayed to be.

I say don't fret about it. I gained 30 with dd and 37 with ds. After dd was born I took it all back off and some before she was 6 months and all I did was breastfeed. Enjoy looking and being pregnant, it doesn't last long.

With my first I gained 12 pounds--I was overweight to begin with and had EXTREME nausea that prevented me from eating at all--I started at 172 and ended at 184. A lot of it was water retention and when I left the hospital I weighed 158. With my second I started at about 145 and ended at about 170 so I gained about 25 pounds. With my third I started out at 155 and ended at about 185--30 pounds.

I thought that unless you are very overweight 25-35 pounds is considered normal. I wouldn't worry too much about it but it might get tough with a doctor telling you otherwise.

I am also agreeing with the pp, if you are normal weight you should gain between 25-35 pounds... I personally just ate and did what I wanted. I did walk alot at my job though. I gained 27 pounds and dd was almost 9 pounds. I didn't even look pregnant until the end. lol. good luck, just be healthy and the rest will work out!

IMO a 15 pound weight gain is unrealistic for most people. I gained way too much with DS (80 lbs- quit smoking, was depressed and addicted to fast food), about 22 lbs with DD (I was shocked that I gained that much because I was on an extreme diet due to gallbladder issues from 13 weeks on), and so far at 28 weeks I have gained 3 lbs over my starting weight because I had hyperemesis and lost more than 20lbs at first. As long as you eat mostly healthy you (and the baby) will be fine
