If it makes you feel any better, I've gained 30lbs and I'm 29 weeks. I dont' feel like I'm eating any differently. For once in my life, it's nice not to be stressed about dieting so I'm just enjoying it. I'll worry about it later.

I gained 60 lbs with both pregnancies, my doctor wasn't too concerned either time. Why does your doctor only want you to gain 15 lbs total? I don't think that is even realistic.

He said because I was overweight when I got pregnant I shouldnt gain any more than 15 lbs. - I was about 185 before I got pregnant (5 ft 6). Overweight yes, but fine and healthy. Even overweight I think 15 lbs is nuts. I drink water or crystal light all day and coffee with cream no sugar in the morning and after dinner, dont eat anything crazy, but also didnt have bad morning sickness so I didnt get to enjoy the "not gaining weight" or even losing weight during the 1st trimester.

I think you should not worry about it too much, unless you get really high blood pressure, or your vitals start really going out of whack. You want to have a healthy baby, that's the most important thing, don't diet, and if you're hungry, eat! (Just watch the junk food, sugar, and salt). My favorite food while I was pregnant was homemade soup! I couldn't get enough!!

I think you're doing great. I'm about 26 weeks right now and I've gained about 19lbs so far. The MW isn't concerned (gained over 70 with DS) and just says eating healthy for the most part is more important than what the scale says. As long as you're feeling good I wouldn't worry about it!

I gained 31 with DS and 25 with DD.

I am going to go against some of the posters and tell you that if you are already overweight, I'd watch how much I gained. If you are heavy, the recommended weight gain is indeed lower.

It's also really tough to lose it afterward. First time moms are often surprised at how much of the "baby weight" actually belongs to THEM after the baby is born.

With my first I gained 54 lbs...lost it all but was a "closet" eater back then. I am 27 weeks now and I am up about 30lbs. I have not been a "closet" eater this time and I am chosing healthier meals I just think your body gains what it needs to for the baby. My dr. is not concerned so really why should I be (he's the one with the degree). I say as long as YOU are happy and YOU feel good that is what matters. Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different...enjoy yourself!

As another big girl, I can tell you, just do the best you can. Don't go nuts with "eating for two" or living on ice cream and you'll be fine. I think I came in right around 15-20 lbs on my first mostly because I had so many food aversions. I pretty much lived on turkey and jack cheese on a french roll with just mayo and cranberry sandwiches from the Safeway deli.

On my second I had really severe morning (noon, night) sickness from the day after I peed on stick until 2 days after she arrived. Had to take medication for it, had bronchitis, yada, yada. Anyway, I was 6lbs below my starting weight when she was born (not a good thing, even if you're overweight to start).

So, just do the best you can. Try to pick a healthier food when you can. Try to only have one "junk" food when you'd usually have 2, etc. After that, it is what it is.

All the best!
Tess

As a mom of 8 do not worry. I was also told 15 pounds more than once and almost always went over that ;)

but take into consideration.
that is for an average baby around six pounds
mine weren't six pounds, except the twins who were 6 12 and 7 8
so if a six pounder "allowa" 15 pounds of weight gain what about a 9 pounder? obviously there is at least a three pound diff there~

eat well and do not stress about such a minor thing, a healthy baby is what you want
