I agree with one of the other posters--for me I got frustrated that Gerber only had plastic containers and that they weren't recyclable. I feel guilty enough throwing away so many diapers! So I bought mostly Beechnut because it came in glass jars. And it was generally cheaper. I wasn't looking for organic stuff though--I imagine that makes a difference in cost and selection too.

Does this sound like a good price? $0.16 for a Jar of Beechnut 2nd foods and $0.17 a jar for Beechnut 1st Foods? I only have a few good home mailer q's.

I saw the promotion that had the UPCs on the Beechnut, I think I can make it. However, wow - $1/10 jars cpns huh? I need a really darn good sale. It costs $0.42 just to mail them in.

Btw - where is the cheapest that people are getting their baby foods? I saw some mention of it in pp. What about places like Walmart & Target. I was looking in my supermarket and it looks pretty expensive.

The neighbors baby that I watch eats Gerber and at least the bottom half has a recycling symbol that matches up to our list the city takes. I made my daughters food because it was so simple instead of store bought. Plus, if I won't eat it, they don't get it, my rule since the first food they get. I also cloth diaper and breastfeed- almost no garbage from her after 10 months old when we switched until now that she's 2 and breaking toys .
My neighbors baby also drinks a ready to feed formula and I recycle that packaging too, can't stomach the thought of one of the quarts a day in the trash!
My husbands grandma has baby food jars with the lids nailed into a shelf, that's how his grandpa stored nails and screws and such. Some of the jars were from other stuff, but look just like baby food jars. So, another use for all of those jars some get . They work great even after 50+ years.

That's interesting, because when my youngest was eating the baby food the Gerber containers were labeled with a "5" and the recycling symbol. Where we live the recycling centers won't take anything but stuff coded 1 or 2. It's pretty frustrating. I guess it must vary by region. I am always amazed at all the stuff that is coded for recycling that we can't actually recycle here.

I didn't mention this before but I did write Gerber asking for them to put their baby food in more recycling friendly packaging and they basically responded that they are very "environmentally conscious."
