UPromise... 529 accounts... so confusing!

I have been with upromise for a little while now, have almost 30 in there, so it is time to look into opening a 529 account to link to it. Anyone have experience with these? Any advice?

I have gone to every one and requested a booklet, so we can lay them out side by side and compare, but other advice would be great! I am lost!

I have also thought about setting up a 529 this way. I did some research online, and found a few websites that allow you to compare different plans side by side according to features. Try either of these:

You will also want to make sure you are looking at current data when you search, as these plans and the laws that regulate them change all the time.

What state do you live in? I did this last year for my son. I am compared a lot of things and ended up going with NC 529 plan because all other things seems about equal and NC allows you to take a deduction on your state tax return for all contributions if you are in their plan.

If you don't live in NC....check on that in your state.

I agree with checking into the state plans. I use the MO one (MO$T- Missourians Saving for Tuition) and it is great. They also do payroll deductions from my employer so I never have to think about making a deposit. My kids get a deposit every time I get paid. I can link my UPromise account to it and dump that money in their MO$T accounts also.
