Re: Breastfeeding Information & Resources When my DS was just under 1 year (that was 17 years ago!), he almost died from an asthma episode. As he was recovering (in the hospital) they told me I couldn't nurse him because his body couldn't handle food, it was too stressed. But I had no other way to comfort him, holding him didn't work. So, I did nurse him - when the nurse caught me, she yelled at me. Luckily, I had chosen a breast feeding friendly pediatrician and I insisted they call him, and he said it was ok. And it was - it was too hard on the stomach for a baby to have formula when they are so stressed but because they self regulate how much milk they get when nursing and because breatmilk is easier to digest, it was just fine.
