Geesh, wish I would have read this before. I was told I needed a mammogram but it wasn't an emergency, no lumps just weird itchiness (TMI). Anyway, Jacob was 14 months at the time. I weaned him at 18 months because I was somewhat concerned (mom died of breast cancer). Anyway, they said I had to wait 6 weeks after weening. Had the mammogram and everything was fine. Thankfully, Jacob's weaning went fine (unlike, child #2's weaning at 2 years!) so I am not too upset I did this earlier than I would have. Thanks for the info and now I am armed. I think that you need to find practioners that are supportive, kwim?

When my DS was just under 1 year (that was 17 years ago!), he almost died from an asthma episode. As he was recovering (in the hospital) they told me I couldn't nurse him because his body couldn't handle food, it was too stressed. But I had no other way to comfort him, holding him didn't work. So, I did nurse him - when the nurse caught me, she yelled at me. Luckily, I had chosen a breast feeding friendly pediatrician and I insisted they call him, and he said it was ok. And it was - it was too hard on the stomach for a baby to have formula when they are so stressed but because they self regulate how much milk they get when nursing and because breatmilk is easier to digest, it was just fine.

I breastfed my daughter until she self weaned at 22 months. I've been breastfeeding my son now and he's 16 months. I plan to let him self wean as well. I feel so fortunate to give them this precious gift.

I hope I can breastfeed when this one is born. When my son was born he was tongue-tied and his ped said he would out grow it as he got older and they wouldn't clip it unless they later found out he was having speech problems. He couldn't latch because of being tongue-tied. We switched pediatricians but he was 3 mos old and they finally clipped it. At that point I wasn't producing milk anymore. They say that being tongue-tied can be genetic, but I am hopeful that either our little one won't be or they will clip it early for us.
