Default Re: Kidney blockage found on ultrasound?

Just a quick update. Aiden Had surgery last week. We had an ultrasound done and the doc said we needed to proceed now. He did amazing and was able to come home the next day. The surgery went a little different than the doc expected due to the blocked part being in a different area. He will require at least two more surgeries now, but as long as he is healthy, that is all that matters.

Oh, one more thing... We need diaper deals! I do not care what brand, but now we have to use two diapers, one big and one small (to cover the surgery area and we will need to use two for about a year). As most of you know, one diaper is costly, but two at a time for one child. I have done the walgreen/huggies, but not as great of a deal as I would hope. Thanks in advance for any tips! blakehlhs

First of all, Congrats on his birth and successful surgery! I have never experienced this but was wondering if something other than a diaper could be used for the surgical area...ie poise? Depends or such? You may be able to find a deal on these. Also, if brand isn't an issue do you have an Aldis or other discount store ....dollar general or such to try finding a cheaper deal for the small diaper. HTH.

On a side note, my daughter has a friend who is 19 who will be having surgery next week for what sounds like the same type of problem that was not diagnosed until last year. She had a stent put in last month. They said the ureter and kidney could be repaired so there would be no more blockage.
There was concern they were going to have to remove her kidney. Your story and the responses have helped me understand what is gong on with the friend. Thanks for sharing.

So glad for the update and so glad to hear things went well! Have a look for something called a "Diaper Doubler". They should have them in most grocery stores in the diaper aisle. As I recall the package is white and blue clouds? Anyway, they look like a maxi pad and may work for the inside diaper you need.

The best bet on savings on diapers is to get the coupons from the companies. Get yourself and all your friends and relatives signed up for them on their websites. You can also print IPs from their sites (usually just one per month), so have them do that for you as well. Also, ask your doctor if they have any samples when you go in for visits. Very often they will and they're happy to provide them to people in your shoes.

All the best!

UPDATE: About a month after surgery Aiden got sick. He had a kiday, bladder and urine infection. We caught it in time because it could have been worse. We stayed in the hospital 2 nights. At this time they found a hernia and wanted to watch it and do surgery when he repaired the other problem. Last week we had the hernia repaired because it got worse and painfull. So, we went for a followup u/s and appointment and we get three months off! (now if we can convince little aiden of that, all will be well!)
I print the diaper coupons and sign up anywhere that I can, but wow, two diapers for one child changed 12-15 times a day???? I would appreciate any tips of where to get a deal! I am still somewhat stocked, but it goes fast. Everytime we stay in the hospital, the nurse sends us home with a fewl packs.

So sorry to hear he was sick. Glad to hear that you caught it early though! I'd ask the ped for samples every time you go in for an appointment. They usually have a bunch and if they know you have to double diaper, they should be agreeable to giving you some.

All the best!

Basically I had to go back for another ultrasound 4-6 weeks later and it had cleared up on its own. After I gave birth, he was on antibiotics for 4 weeks and we had to take him for an ultrasound and another kidney test (the name fails me) at Children's Hospital just to be sure. Both tests turned out to be clear so the problem worked itself out in the womb.
All that being said, I completely understand your fear and concerns! Please dont worry too much though. I remember my OB telling me that 90% of the cases fix themselves. Keep us UTD and if you need to talk further please PM me!
I'll say a little prayer for you and your little one!

Have you ever thought about using cloth diapers. Its alot cheaper. Fuzzi bunz are very very very soft. I just recieved mine today and they are alot softer then the bum genius 3.0 i have been using (im very satisfied with the bg though just getting small). Ps I have no problems with leaks ,they clean well and its no more gross than wiping poop off their tushie lol. If you don't want to know more thats cool if you do just pm me.
