I posted on this post a while ago, but figured I would add an update. I just finished potty training my 2 year old ds(he turned 2 two days ago). He was my easiest to potty-train, as well as my earliest. He started striping every time he peed, so we put him in underwear, and started putting him on the potty. I taught him how to clean up his mess if he had an accident. It took about a week and a half to get him potty-trained, and that includes 4 days we took off because he spent a weekend with his grandparents. He still has occasional accidents, but we don't make a big deal about it.

I never actively trained them. They each started to show interest around 3 years old and we went from there. It wasn't a big deal to me so I let them lead.

We did a mild form of elimination communication with DD starting around 14 months, she was trained at 22 months. Now at almost 3 she still wears a pull-up for night, but never during the day. I am a bare butt training mom, I think that made it easy for us, plus she wore dresses much of the time so it was easy for her to pull up.

She started showing us interest when she was around a year, she was always curious what we were doing in the bathroom, so we just got her little potty and went for it. Worked well for us.

hi everyone. I've read over most of the comments here and i'm hoping for advice. My DD is 25 months. she started showing signs that she was interstested a couple of months ago. we got her a potty but forced nothing. she would go into the bathroom w/me or her big sis.

That potty turned into a stool so she could spit out her toothpaste in the sink like big sis. lol THEN...after fishing her out of the toilet a couple of times, i bought one of those little seats that sit on top of the reg. ones.

she loves it, sometimes just likes to sit there just because. I had seen somewhere that once you start to train AT ALL, you should do away with diapers completely. even at night and stick to pull ups or underwear, whatever.

anyway, she's been in pull ups for a couple of months but there is'nt much solo initiative to go potty. she'll tell me after the fact. of course i take her potty at various times during the day and sometimes she goes, sometimes she does'nt.

should i put her back in diapers and wait a few months, then try again?

advice? TIA

Ditch the pull-ups and go straight to panties if you really think she is ready but at 25 months I'd put her back in diapers & wait. 2 1/2 was the golden time for us. (I am very against pull-ups--all they are is a diaper they can pull down, and in my experience if they have one on they will pee in it.)

DS#2 will turn 2 this weekend. I have planned on really working on him with it soon, I'm just waiting for a good behavior mood starting on my 4 day off in a row stretch. He does ask to go quite frequently, stays dry during naps and most of the time at night. He always goes even if only a few drips every time he sits on the potty. He always sits on the potty before bath, before bed, and first thing in the morning. The rest of the time it is just when he asks. At MIL's house she lets him stand up to pee since he sees his big brother go and likes doing that so I may have to let him start peeing that way at home.

DS #1 was potty trained about 3 months before he turned three but then regressed a bit when DS#2 was born. But it only took a couple weeks to rebound from that.

well lets see...my older two now 13 and 15 were broke by the time they were 2 years old but now I have twins(g/b) they are a little over 2 years old and are not broke yet.Julia will go get diaper when she needs to go and bring it to me, if I put her on the potty she will just sit and cry. Alex (talks more) will tell me he dont want to go potty when he even sees me comming of the morning with the underwear. He will hide and go them come to me with a diaper crying about it...
Their doctor says not to worry about it,for they were born 2 months and he says that has something to do with them not being ready just yet...so its all within the child as to how old they are when they are potty trained, he say most are between 2 and 3 years old....

We did infant pottying so first pee on potty at 7 months and once a day on potty until 15 months. At 16-18 months we switched her to cloth diapers and training pants. Day training was complete when she just turned 19 months and when she turned 20 months we went out and bought big girl undies.

I intended to start around 18 months both times. With Nicole, however, I was pregnant and we were moving 600 miles at that time so I knew it was a lost cause to start then. With Jenny, somehow it got away from us and now we're struggling at 3.

I have a confession.... I didn't potty train any of our kiddoes. With our DD, I was working on my dissertation for my Masters and I took her to my Mothers for a couple days so I could finish and study for orals. She came back to me with a potty chair and. Our DS#1, I had to have surgery and while i as in the hospital for two weeks my DH and Mom trained him. With DS#2, I was in Ireland at a Seminar and my Mom decided it was time for him to learn. She is a great behavioral training specialist. But DD was the easiest. With DS#1, He had some back sliding issues.
