    Size 3:

    Had: 35
Have: 12 including the open packs (so 23 packs used so far)

Switched to 3s at 21 weeks, and he is 42.5 weeks now, so 21.5 weeks ago.

23 packs used divided by 21.5 weeks is 1.07 packs per week. Usage has obviously dropped way off.

At 1 pack per week, I have 12 weeks worth on hand, or enough to last until his 1st birthday on December 11th.

    Size 4:

    Had: 28
    Have: 25.5

He is using size 4 diapers for overnight, since he was peeing through the 3s.

We have used 1.5 mega packs of those. He only uses one a night.

HELP Diaper stockpiling - how much of each size?

Hello! I'm due in July 2008, and I'm trying to get started stockpiling my diaper supply. Any recommendations on how many size newborn, 1's and 2's to get? I understand I'm going to need a TON (I think I've read 10-12 per day), but I need to start SOMEWHERE! How many of each size did YOU stockpile?

I unfortunately didn't learn about stockpiling when pregnant with my DD, but here is about what we went through. She was 6lb.11oz at birth.

Newborn size - used for about 1 month, so 300-360 diapers
Size 1 - used from 1 month to 3 months, so 600-720 diapers,
Size 2 - used from 3 months to 5 months I think, so 600 or so diapers

She went through those sizes pretty quickly. A lot of babies stay in the small sizes longer than she did, but she had fat little legs, even though she wasn't too big, and needed a bigger size, even though she didn't weigh as much as the weight-ranges on them.
She then stayed in Size 3 until she was over 12 months, if my memory serves correctly. Good luck and Congratulations!!

Size one goes really fast.... then size 2 for a couple months.... but size 3 is probably the one that lasts the longest and then size 4................ but that is just my case.... maybe for some size 4 is the one that lasts the longest.

My son was in size ones from the get go at 9lbs 1oz at birth :) I squeezed him into newborns cause we had them in the house until he was MAYBE 2 weeks old then up to sizes ones all the time.. those lasted maybe until he was 2.5 months old hes' not almost 3 months old and in sizes threes (he's gotta weight close to 16 pounds by now).

I had six packs of size twos left and afew of size ones as well... i'm running out of threes-- and for a long while my kiddo was getting diaper changes 12 times or more a day cause he'd scream as soon as he went. Now we are at about 8-10 a day its much nicer :)

I wouldn't stockpile too many newborn diapers just in case. Of course, I followed that advice and only stockpiled 1s and up, and my daughter ended up being in newborn diapers for 2 months. Of course, better too big than too small, IMO.

My daughter was in size 1s for at least 4 months. Honestly, it is really hard to tell. Usually if you have the wrong size, you can just take 'em to Wally World and exchange them for the right size. She's in size 3s now at 14 months, but she could probably still fit in 2s. She weighs 23lbs, so it has nothing to do with weigh IMO. The 4s are too big on her, and she leaks through the 2s.

Also, don't be like me. I stockpiled TONS and TONS of Luvs Diapers. Then found out that I HATED THEM. Ugh, they still make me grimace. I am all for cheap, but it was not worth the money for me in washing wet sheets, wet clothes, etc. But hey, for some people Luvs works great!

Do not forget to stockpile wipes, either. :D I stockpiled a ton, and we went through them like crazy. You can never, ever, ever have too many wipes. They will be with you for at least 2 years, and after that they're good for wiping off hands and even for cleaning.

My boys were 9lbs 8 oz's and 9 lbs 12 oz's...never wore newborns. The nurses laughed when they tried to put one on them...no way! LOL. Definitely wouldn't buy more than a pack of newborns if any...and only a few packs of 1's...they grow so fast. Even 2's didn't last on my youngest boy very long...had to jump to 3's by 31/2 months...He is five months now and still in the 3's. (But can wear 4's if needed with no problem!) Best of luck!

It completely depends on the weight and shape of your baby. My little guy is long and lean so he is now 9 1/2 months old but only weighs 17 1/2 lbs so I can still get him in size 2's but we only wear those during the days and size 3's at night. When we are heading out of the house for shopping or whatever, I put him in a size 3 just to make sure we don't have any leaks. I haven't had any problems with leaking in the size 2's yet. I am trying to finish up the last package and then he will be in 3's for good. My friend had a chubbier baby and he moved up sizes much faster than we did. I know Mrs.P made a guide somewhere of what she bought for sizes and I tried to follow that but it was way off for me since he is so tall and lean. I would say use it as a guideline and definitely get some smaller sizes but not a lot. There are always diaper deals coming and going so hopefully if you would need more smaller sizes, you would be able to get a deal if you ran out. Congratulations!!! I hope you have a great and easy pregnancy.

First of all I totally agree on the wipes! No sizes and you can never have too many. As for diapers, my girls were small, around 6 1/2 lbs each. We spent a long time in smaller sizes. I went through at least 10 packs of newborns (for twins), spend several months in size ones, then stayed in size two until maybe 9-10 months old. Now at a year old they're around 17lbs and in size 3 with plenty of growning room. It really does varry a lot. So guess the best you can and save your recipts!

ETA: My oldest never made it past a size four.
