Since the Little Pinecone was pretty big, I think your estimating so far has been great since you said he's pretty much on schedule with what you had planned!! | I am pretty sure the breakdown was something like this:
Size 1 - 10 packs
Size 2 - 22 packs
Size 3 - 24 packs
Size 4 - 18 packs
I had to buy an additional pack of 1s when I was at mom's since he went through more than we had anticipated there, but over all, I think I am doing pretty well on the estimates.

| Re: Diaper Question You might want to stockpile 12 packs of size 1s if you are likely to have a smaller baby-- the Pinenut was a 10 pounder, so was well into the weight range for 1s at birth.

| Re: Diaper Question Go on the basis that the child will go through 7-9 wet/poopy diapers a day.
I bought 8 packs of size 1 and my baby was 10 lbs 3 ounces he was also 23 3/8 inches at birth so very well done!
Anyway...
Going on the basis of 8 diapers per day, the child theoretically will go through a jumbo pack of size 1s every 7 days.
Going on the "average" weight of 8 lbs, a child who grows at a normal pace should be around 12 lbs by 3 months, 14 lbs by 6 months, 16 lbs by 9 months, and 20 lbs by a year...this is according to the cdc height/weight charts.
So...going off mrsp diaper weight guide in the 101 thread:
1-2 packs newborns...don't bother they get these from the hospital
8-10 packs of size 1
20-24 packs size 2
10-14 packs size 3
if you want to give her a year's worth of diapers. Again, this is not accurate because not every baby goes by the cdc in height and weight. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/...l/cj41c018.pdf
hth!!
I always tell newly pregnant women to buy a pack of diapers for every week they are pregnant stockpiling 8 jumbo packs of each size that way they will never have to get diapers in the middle of the night because they will always have the next size up to fall back on. |

Actually, he did slow down a bit, so my calculations as far as how many days those 10 packs would last were pretty close. (I guessed that they would last me 56 days/8 weeks.)
I am probably going to buy another couple of packs of size 1s, because he is at 12.5 lbs and not blowing out of the 1s yet. I'd rather get more diapers per pack for as long as I can!

| Re: Diaper Question Because the marketing department can get away with it. Most people are willing to pay premium prices for ANYTHING for a new baby.

| Re: Diaper Question I am going to update the number of packs that I am going through for those who are stockpiling:
Size 1 - we ended up using 12 packs before he outgrew them
Size 2 - Started with 22 packs, currently down to 4ish, including open packs; we are starting to have a few leakage problems, so we will probably be moving up to 3s in the very near future. I will save the last 3 packs for the next bebe.
Size 3 - 29 packs waiting in the wings, since the weight range on these is the largest, and people say you stay in 3s for a long time
Size 4 - I think I have about 20 packs, but they are in the attic. I need to move them to the garage so they aren't damaged by the heat and will do a recount then
I also have a few random packs of PullUps that I got on clearance for almost nothing, and a dozen packs of swim diapers that were also super cheap or free.
